What is HAZE❓

It is an atmospheric phenomenon where dry particles like dust, smoke, and pollution suspend in the air and reduce visibility which can lead to respiratory irritation such as coughing, throat irritation, and breathing difficulties.

Fine particles (like PM2.5) travel long distances across borders through wind currents.

🙋🏻‍♀️ What causes Haze?

Natural sources such as WILD FIRES, VOLCANIC ASH, and WIND BLOWN DUST. Human activities such as vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions, and agricultural burning.

Who is at HIGH Risk? 👧🏻👦🏻🧓🏻👵🏻

Vulnerable groups are children, older adults and people with asthma or heart conditions.

In view of the haze affecting several areas in the Philippines, possibly associated with smoke and transboundary haze from ongoing fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia, the Environmental Management Bureau – Negros Island Region (EMB-NIR) continues to closely monitor ambient air quality levels in 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐋𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐚, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐬 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Based on the latest monitoring data, some monitoring stations recorded air quality levels ranging from 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐔𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬. These conditions may pose increased health risks, particularly to sensitive individuals.

AIR QUALITY UPDATE | 21 September 2026, 8AM
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) continues to closely monitor the air quality situation in several areas in the Philippines affected by haze.
The observed haze is possibly associated with smoke and transboundary haze from ongoing fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia, which may have been transported toward the Philippines by prevailing winds.
The public is advised to:
🏠 Minimize prolonged outdoor activities, particularly in areas visibly affected by haze;
👴👧Persons sensitive to air pollution, including children, older persons, and individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, are advised to limit outdoor exposure and take necessary precautions;
😷 Wear a well-fitting mask, preferably an N95 or equivalent, when going outdoors in areas with noticeable haze; and
‼️ Stay updated through official advisories and air quality information from the DENR-EMB and other concerned government agencies.
