FDA Requirements for a Valid e-Prescription
An e-prescription should contain the same essential information as a written prescription, including:
Patient's name
Date of issuance
Generic and/or brand name of the medication
Strength, dosage, and directions for use
Physician's name
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license number
Professional Tax Receipt (PTR) number
Physician's signature (electronic or digital, as applicable).
Can Pharmacies Accept e-Prescriptions?
Yes. FDA guidance states that electronic prescriptions are considered equivalent to written prescriptions and may be presented electronically when purchasing prescription medicines from licensed pharmacies. Pharmacies are responsible for verifying the authenticity and validity of the prescription.
