In the Philippines, an electronic prescription (e-Prescription or e-Reseta) is a valid prescription issued by a licensed physician and transmitted electronically (e.g., via email, telemedicine platforms, messaging apps, or other electronic documents). The Philippine FDA recognized electronic prescriptions to help patients access medications, particularly through teleconsultations and remote healthcare services.

FDA Requirements for a Valid e-Prescription
An e-prescription should contain the same essential information as a written prescription, including:
Patient's name
Date of issuance
Generic and/or brand name of the medication
Strength, dosage, and directions for use
Physician's name
Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license number
Professional Tax Receipt (PTR) number
Physician's signature (electronic or digital, as applicable).
Can Pharmacies Accept e-Prescriptions?
Yes. FDA guidance states that electronic prescriptions are considered equivalent to written prescriptions and may be presented electronically when purchasing prescription medicines from licensed pharmacies. Pharmacies are responsible for verifying the authenticity and validity of the prescription.
Common Uses
Telemedicine consultations
Follow-up consultations
Maintenance medications
Situations where patients cannot easily visit a clinic in person.
Important Notes
Some pharmacies may still request a printed copy for administrative reasons, particularly for senior citizen or PWD discount documentation, although healthcare professionals generally note that valid e-prescriptions should be honored.
Special rules may apply to certain controlled or dangerous drugs.
