Earlier today, the Nutrition Support Unit (NSU) successfully conducted its clinical nutrition workshop entitled "Empowering Health Care Teams in Clinical Nutrition for Enhanced Patient Care."
Recognizing nutrition as an integral component of patient management, the workshop aimed to strengthen the knowledge and competencies of healthcare professionals in delivering evidence-based nutrition care as part of comprehensive clinical management.
The program formally commenced with an inspiring virtual message from Dr. Maria Lourdes K. Otayza, Medical Center Chief, who emphasized that nutrition is not merely a footnote in patient management but a vital and rigorous component of quality healthcare.
Dr. Mia Lijauco, Chairperson of the Nutrition Support Unit, presented the hospital's current Nutrition Care Process (NCP) practices.
Dr. Jacqueline Rose Burgos, Clinical Nutrition Manager of Abbott Philippines, discussed the role of nutrition in optimizing clinical outcomes, promoting recovery, and enhancing the quality of patient care through the effective implementation of the Nutrition Care Process.
This was followed by Dr. Kristal Mendoza, who delivered a lecture on the principles and clinical application of Parenteral Nutrition.
To reinforce the concepts discussed, participants actively engaged in a case-based workshop, applying the Nutrition Care Process in developing nutrition care plans for a given clinical scenario.
The activity was attended by resident physicians from various hospital departments, nurses, pharmacists, and dietitians, with 40 participants attending onsite and another 76 participating virtually.
The program concluded with the closing remarks of Dr. Jose B. Orosa III, Chief of the Medical Professional Staff.
