Not all acne-like bumps are actually acne! 🔍
Those small, similar-looking bumps on your forehead, chest, or back may be Malassezia folliculitis, commonly referred to as “fungal acne.”
Unlike acne vulgaris, Malassezia folliculitis is an inflammatory condition associated with the proliferation of yeast within the hair follicles.
It typically presents as uniform, follicular bumps that may be itchy and are usually not accompanied by blackheads or whiteheads.
Why does the distinction matter?
Although these conditions may look similar, they have different underlying mechanisms and may require different treatments.
If your acne-like bumps persist despite conventional acne treatments, consult a board-certified dermatologist for proper evaluation and management.
Similar appearance. Different conditions. Different treatments.
