One day. Countless opportunities to save lives.

In celebration of National CPR Day July 17, 2026, the Region II Trauma and Medical Center - Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit (R2TMC HEDMU) successfully conducted a whole-day Hands-Only CPR Campaign and Mass CPR Training, bringing lifesaving skills closer to schools and communities.

Anchored on this year’s theme, “Estudyante’t Titser, Sa Barangay, Ating mga Lifesaver,” the campaign began at Our Lady of Fatima School of Villaverde, where 187 students, teachers, and school personnel were trained on the early recognition of cardiac arrest and the proper performance of Hands-Only CPR. As part of the hospital’s continuing advocacy, SAGIP CPR Advocacy Shirts were also presented to support the school’s commitment to promoting lifesaving awareness and preparedness.

The campaign continued in the afternoon at the R2TMC OPD TB-DOTS Area, with the activity formally opened by Medical Center Chief Dr. Ray P. Suanding and Chief Nurse Mam Luisa Gomez. Conducted in collaboration with the R2TMC ACLS Instructors, the session trained 150 patients, watchers, R2TMC personnel, security guards, student nurses, medical interns, and members of the community, reinforcing that anyone can become a lifesaver with the right knowledge and skills.

Every person trained represents another life that could be saved. Immediate bystander CPR significantly increases the chances of survival following sudden cardiac arrest, making community education one of the most effective ways to strengthen emergency preparedness and build safer, more resilient communities.

R2TMC HEDMU extends its heartfelt appreciation to the R2TMC Management Committee, led by Dr. Ray P. Suanding , the R2TMC family, faculty, and students of Our Lady of Fatima School of Villaverde, the R2TMC ACLS Instructors, and all participants and partners who contributed to the success of this year’s National CPR Day activities.

Because saving a life begins with someone who is prepared to act. Together, let us build a nation where every student, every teacher, and every community has the power to save a life.

On July 16, in commemoration of the 36th anniversary of the 1990 Luzon Earthquake (Magnitude 7.8), the Region II Trauma and Medical Center Emergency Department successfully conducted a High-Intensity Earthquake Simulation Exercise, facilitated by the Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit (HEDMU).

The exercise tested the Emergency Department’s area-specific evacuation and response procedures, including command and control, communication, patient movement, casualty management, and continuity of essential emergency services.

Congratulations to the entire Emergency Department for taking the lead in developing and testing its own area-specific earthquake evacuation and response plan. As the hospital’s primary entry point for emergency and trauma patients, the ER must remain functional, organized, and responsive during disasters. Its readiness is vital in managing casualty surges, ensuring continuity of lifesaving services, and supporting the hospital’s overall emergency response.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the R2TMC Management Committee, under the leadership of Medical Center Chief Dr. Ray P. Suanding, for its guidance and continued support.

We also thank the Engineering and Facilities Management Division and the Security Unit for their invaluable assistance in ensuring the safe and orderly conduct of the exercise.

Our gratitude also goes to the Philippine Red Cross Nueva Vizcaya Chapter and the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for their support, technical inputs, and participation.

The lessons, observations, and recommendations generated from the exercise will be used to further improve the Emergency Department’s procedures. Its area-specific evacuation and response plan will also be incorporated into the overall disaster preparedness, evacuation, and response plan of R2TMC.

Preparedness begins at the unit level. By strengthening each department’s capacity to respond, we strengthen the readiness and resilience of the entire hospital.

MAMAYA NA ang National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026!

Sa ilalim ng Executive Order No. 29, s. 2017, itinalaga ang buwan ng Hulyo bilang National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) sa Pilipinas. Sama-sama itong ipagdiriwang ng mga Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng mga aktibidad na naglalayong palawakin ang kamalayan ng publiko sa kahalagahan ng Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).

Para sa 38th year ng NDRM, iikot ang pagdiriwang sa temang "NAGHAHANDA at KUMIKILOS Tungo sa PANATAG na BAGONG PILIPINAS". Ipinapakita nito ang kahalagahan ng maagap na paghahanda at patuloy na pagkilos sa pagbuo ng ligtas at disaster-resilient na komunidad.

During the 2nd Quarter of 2026, the R2TMC HEDMU remained committed to strengthening emergency preparedness and lifesaving skills through continuous training and collaboration.
Highlights:

Conducted 16 batches of In-House Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for hospital personnel and 4 batches of External Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and 1 batch of Standard First Aid (SFA) Training in partnership with the PDRRMO Nueva Vizcaya at Buliwao, Quezon.

Through these initiatives, we continue to enhance the knowledge, skills, and readiness of healthcare workers and emergency responders. Together, we are building a safer, more prepared, and more resilient community through quality emergency preparedness and response training.

R2TMC HEDMU in Action | SOCCSKSARGEN Earthquake Response 🇵🇭

In times of disaster, service knows no boundaries.

The Region II Trauma and Medical Center - Health Emergency and Disaster Management Unit (R2TMC HEDMU) answered the call to augment the emergency response operations in DOH Center for Health Development SOCCSKSARGEN following the devastating magnitude 7.8 offshore earthquake that affected Southern Mindanao.

Our deployment focused on strengthening the region’s Emergency Operations Center (OpCen) by supporting emergency coordination, command and control, information management, situational reporting, inter-agency coordination, and Incident Management Team (IMT) operations. Working alongside dedicated responders from the DOH, local government units, partner agencies, and humanitarian organizations, we helped ensure that timely and coordinated health emergency actions reached the affected communities.

Disasters remind us that preparedness, teamwork, and leadership save lives. This mission also reflects R2TMC’s continuing commitment to support national emergency response efforts beyond our region whenever called upon.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the management of R2TMC for their unwavering support, to the Department of Health - Health Emergency Management Bureau (HEMB) for the opportunity to serve, and to the DOH Center for Health Development SOCCSKSARGEN for the trust and collaboration throughout the response.
