In response to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases, Mayor Roderick Awingan has reinstated basic health protocols for all citizens, residents, and visitors under Executive Order No. 103-2026 to curb further transmission.

Records show that as of July 25, 2026, the town has logged 15 cases, comprising 9 males and 6 females, with ages ranging from 11 months to 66 years.

The health and safety standards include the wearing of masks, frequent handwashing, respiratory etiquette, disinfection and physical distancing. Below are the complete details:

• Use of Masks. Citizens are advised at their option to use face masks in indoor or outdoor spaces. However, it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED in the following settings:
a. Healthcare facilities, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, laboratories, nursing homes, and dialysis clinics
b. Medical Transport Vehicles, such as ambulances and paramedic rescue vehicles
c. When individuals are sick or immunocompromised

• Frequent Handwashing. Practice frequent handwashing using soap and clean water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

• Respiratory Etiquette. Observe the following respiratory etiquette mainly when sneezing and coughing especially when in public and crowded places:
a. Cover mouth and nose with tissue or wipes
b. Properly dispose of used tissues or wipes immediately after
c. If tissue is unavailable, use one’s upper sleeve or arm
d. Avoid coughing into hands which can easily spread viruses
e. Wash hands with soap and water after coughing or sneezing, after contact with an infected person, and after touching potentially contaminated surfaces

• Refrain from touching one’s eyes, nose, and mouth especially with unwashed hands and after touching potentially contaminated instruments and surfaces.

• Disinfection. Ensure regular disinfection particularly of frequently touched surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with the virus

• Physical Distancing. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary contact in highly populated areas.

Business and public establishments are also highly encouraged to maintain the free flow of air and set up handwashing areas or provide sanitizers in key locations.

Additionally, concerned offices such as the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, Health Services Office, and barangay officials are tasked to spearhead the dissemination of the EO.

COVID-19 cases rise in Baguio, but health chief says situation remains under control

BAGUIO CITY — COVID-19 cases may be on the rise in Baguio, but city health officials say the overall situation remains under control, stressing that the coronavirus is only one of several respiratory viruses that have circulated in the city this year.

From Jan. 1 to July 9, Baguio recorded 41 confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to the City Health Services Office (CHSO).

The city also logged 1,480 influenza-like illness (ILI) cases during the same period. Of these, 312 patients required hospitalization, but no deaths have been recorded.

“We are seeing an uptick in cases, and while the numbers remain manageable, the concentration among our hospital workforce requires immediate and sustained attention,” City Health Officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes said in a public advisory.

“Our priority is to protect our healthcare workers, our patients, and the continuity of health services in our city.”

Brillantes said the current pattern suggests respiratory infections continue to circulate but remain manageable through surveillance, treatment, and infection prevention measures.

𝘾𝙊𝙑𝙄𝘿 𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙪𝙨

Laboratory surveillance detected influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, during the first four months of the year.

January recorded the widest mix of circulating viruses, including Influenza A (H3), two lineages of Influenza B, RSV and SARS-CoV-2. Influenza detections declined in the succeeding months. By May and June, laboratory surveillance identified only SARS-CoV-2, with no influenza or RSV detections reported.

Health officials said the findings show that respiratory viruses change throughout the year and that the recent increase in COVID-19 cases should be viewed within the broader pattern of seasonal respiratory illnesses.

𝙃𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨

The CHSO, in coordination with hospitals and other health facilities, has reinforced infection prevention measures as infections among healthcare workers have raised concerns about maintaining the continuity of health services.

Consistent with Department of Health guidance, hospitals have been advised to continue masking in healthcare settings, particularly in areas caring for vulnerable patients, ensure infected healthcare workers complete the recommended isolation period before returning to duty, monitor staffing levels to maintain essential services, promptly report confirmed cases, and strengthen standard infection prevention practices such as hand hygiene, proper ventilation and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.

𝙋𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩

Brillantes reminded healthcare workers experiencing respiratory symptoms not to report for duty and instead undergo appropriate testing and isolation.

She also encouraged the public to wear well-fitted masks in crowded or poorly ventilated places, especially when around older adults, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals and those with underlying medical conditions.

Residents are likewise urged to practice good hand hygiene, keep indoor spaces well ventilated, and seek medical consultation at their district health center if they develop moderate to severe symptoms.

The CHSO said it continues to monitor respiratory illnesses in coordination with the Department of Health and hospitals across the city and will issue updates as needed.
