WHY ACCESSIBILITY MATTERS

Did you know that over 40 years ago, Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 (The Accessibility Law) made Persons with Disability-friendly access mandatory? A simple set of stairs can completely cut off access for senior citizens and wheelchair-user Estehanons. Making your business accessible is not just a legal requirement—it expands your customer base and shows community care.

INCLUSION IS EVERYONE’S RIGHT
‎
‎
‎Persons With Disability are important members of our community who deserve equal rights, respect, understanding, and opportunities. Disability should never be a reason for discrimination or exclusion. Through the continuous efforts of PPDAO in promoting awareness, accessibility, kindness, and inclusion, we can help create a safer and more supportive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. Let us learn to see abilities instead of limitations, because every person has unique strengths, talents, and dreams that deserve to shine. ♿💙

What is DIDRR?

Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR) is to make sure that the needs and voices of persons with disabilities are included in emergency management and disaster planning.

It is the process of reducing barriers and strengthening enabling actions to ensure meaningful engagement of persons with disabilities in community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR) programs, making them more visible and prioritized in disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery initiatives and to ensure all these levels are inclusive of persons with disability.

The failure to include persons with disabilities in the world's efforts to reduce the risks of disasters has dramatic consequences. Due to inaccessible disaster preparedness plans, systemic discrimination, and widespread poverty, persons with disabilities are often left behind in relief and response efforts.

Therefore, persons with disabilities need to be consulted and fully engaged in the development and implementation of national and local strategies.
