CITY GOVERNMENT WARNS PUBLIC AGAINST LEPTOSPIROSIS DURING TYPHOON BASYANG

DURING Typhoon Basyang, the city government, headed by Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy, through the City Health Office (CHO) led by Dr. Rachel Dilla, in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), reminded the public of ways to prevent leptospirosis during the flooding season.

The CHO emphasized that one of the most effective ways to prevent leptospirosis is by wearing protective clothing, covering skin lesions with waterproof dressings, avoiding wading or swimming in potentially contaminated water, washing or showering after possible exposure, properly cleaning wounds, and avoiding contact with sick or dead animals.

The public is also advised to drink only clean and purified water.

Health officials warned that leptospirosis may present mild, flu-like symptoms and can be mistaken for dengue, typhoid fever, or viral hepatitis.

The City Health Office strongly advises individuals who experience symptoms of leptospirosis and have been exposed to floodwater to immediately consult a health professional. The public is further warned against self-medicating with antibiotics. (MDS/CIO/Infographic by: CHO)
