πŸŽ€ OCTOBER 2026 | BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH πŸŽ€

πŸ’• β€œEarly Detection Saves Lives!” πŸ’•

This October, Bayabas Health Center proudly joins the nation in observing Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026, promoting awareness, early detection, and prevention of breast cancer. πŸ’—

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women, but early detection and timely treatment can greatly improve the chances of successful recovery.

🌸 Know your body, know the signs! Be aware of unusual breast lumps, changes in breast size or shape, ni**le discharge, or skin changes. If you notice anything unusual, consult a healthcare professional immediately.

πŸ’– Let us encourage every woman, mother, sister, daughter, and friend to prioritize their breast health through regular checkups, appropriate screening, and a healthy lifestyle.

Together, let us spread awareness, support breast cancer survivors and fighters, and honor those we have lost to this disease.

Almost 900 people in Bangladesh are suspected to have died in a measles outbreak that began in March. Most of those affected are children.

The country had hoped to eliminate measles and rubella by 2020. Instead, the pandemic disrupted routine childhood vaccinations, leaving pockets of children vulnerable to the virus. Now other countries where vaccination rates have fallen face a similar risk.

Vaccine hesitancy is probably part of the story here too. During the COVID pandemic, almost half of Bangladesh’s population were wary of getting vaccinated. That same wariness may well have carried over to the measles-rubella jab, with many parents simply refusing to let their children be vaccinated.

Protecting Our Students, Building a Healthier Future! πŸ’‰βœ¨

On October 9, 2026, Bayabas Health Center successfully conducted a School-Based Immunization (SBI) activity at Bayabas National High School, in line with the Department of Health's Bakuna Eskwela Program.

The activity focused on administering Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) vaccines to Grade 7 students, helping strengthen their protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.

πŸ’š Why is this program important?
The Bakuna Eskwela Program helps protect students from serious infectious diseases, prevents outbreaks in schools and communities, and promotes a healthier and safer learning environment.

Bayabas Health Center extends its heartfelt gratitude to the school administration, teachers, parents, students, and healthcare workers for their continued cooperation and support in making this immunization activity possible.

Together, let us continue promoting the importance of vaccination because every vaccinated child is a step toward a healthier and safer community! πŸ’šπŸ’‰

πŸ“ Bayabas Elementary School

In line with the Department of Health’s (DOH) Bakuna Eskwela Program, the Bayabas Health Center successfully conducted a School-Based Immunization (SBI) activity at Bayabas Elementary School on October 6 and 8, 2026, as part of its continuous efforts to promote children's health and strengthen protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.

During the activity, the following vaccines were administered to eligible students:

πŸ’‰ Grade 1 Students – Measles-Rubella (MR) and Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) Vaccines

πŸ’‰ Grade 4 Female Students – Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine

🌟 WHY IS THIS PROGRAM IMPORTANT?

School-based immunization helps protect children from preventable diseases, while HPV vaccination helps reduce the risk of cervical cancer in the future. Through vaccination, we help ensure a healthier and safer generation.

The Bayabas Health Center sincerely extends its gratitude to the school administration, teachers, parents, and guardians of Bayabas Elementary School, together with our dedicated healthcare workers, for their unwavering support and cooperation in making this activity a success.

Together, let us continue building a healthier community by ensuring that every child receives the protection they deserve! πŸ’š

OCTOBER IS ADHD AWARENESS MONTH

THE City Health Office (CHO) called on the public to support families with children afflicted with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as the world observes ADHD Awareness Month this October.

The CHO said ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting brain development and function, involving differences in attention, executive functioning, and self-regulation in both children and adults.

Symptoms usually begin before age 12 and vary per person, encompassing inattention, hyperactivity or restlessness, impulsivity, and executive dysfunction challenges like planning, organizing, and managing time.

Looking beyond stereotypes, the observance clarifies that ADHD is NOT simply laziness, lack of discipline, β€˜bad behavior,’ being β€˜too energetic,’ or easy distraction, nor stems from poor parenting or something children outgrow.

Calling on the community to learn, understand, and support, the CHO encourages families, schools, workplaces, and communities to hold open conversations, foster inclusion, and recognize the unique strengths of neurodivergent individuals, building an empowering environment where those with ADHD can thrive. Bayabas Health Center successfully conducted a fun and engaging Wellness Activity – Word Search Game on October 1, 2026, at the Bayabas Health Center. The activity provided our health workers with an enjoyable opportunity to relax, stimulate their minds, strengthen teamwork, and promote camaraderie while taking a short break from their daily responsibilities in serving the community.

The activity was participated in by our dedicated Medical Officer, Dr. Sarah Jean R. Diaz; Nurse, Ma’am Chiara Mae D. Cansino; Midwife, Ma’am Ruth W. Naguita; DOH Nurses, Ma’am Melani Mae MaΓ±ale and Ma’am Michelle Andrea Abut; together with our hardworking Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs).

Everyone actively participated in the challenging word search game, bringing excitement, laughter, and friendly competition to the activity. πŸ”ŽπŸ§ βœ¨ The game not only tested everyone’s focus, memory, and knowledge of health-related words but also encouraged positive interaction and strengthened the bond among the Bayabas Health Center team.

πŸ†πŸŽ Congratulations to all the winners! Prizes were given to the participants who successfully completed the challenge. More importantly, the activity reminded everyone that wellness also means taking time to enjoy, connect, recharge, and appreciate one another as a team.
