Good Day.
This time of the year , DENGUE virus cases had been recorded.
Below are DENGUE basic information and guidelines on prevention-control-treatment management at home and at school:
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever ( DHF) is a severe form of dengue fever caused by DENGUE VIRUS transmitted through mosquito ( aedes aegypti) bite. Early recognition/ detection and proper management is necessary to prevent complications.
Prevention:
1.) mosquito control measures
*eliminate breeding areas
*use of mosquito repellants and nets
* environmental sanitation and cleanliness
2.) personal protection
* wear long body coverings
*maintain rooms as mosquito- free/ mosquito- safe areas
3.) community awareness and education
* refer to local community information campaigns
* refer to health workers
* maintain self- awareness initiatives
Early detection/ symptoms:
Mild symptoms
* sudden high fever ( 40 C)
* severe headache
*pain behind the eyes
* joint and muscle pains
* rashes
* nausea/ vomiting
Severe symptoms
*persistent vomiting
*severe abdominal pain
* gum/ nose bleeding
* blood in the urine, stool, vomitous
*difficulty breathing
* cold clammy skin
* SEEK MEDICAL HELP IMMEDIATELY if SEVERE symptoms are evident.
Home Care and Treatment
( for MILD cases )
* hydrate- drink a lot of fluids/ water, ors, coconut water.
* fever management- take paracetamol/ acetaminophen every 6-8 hours round the clock. DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN or IBUPROFEN as it may aggravate bleeding risk.
*Rest and Nutrition maintenance- get enough bed rest and sleep and eat high nutritious meals, fruits and vegetables
( Severe Cases)
* monitor vitals /hydration and sensorium state and refer immediately
* urgent hospital transfer and management is advised.
