Before you correct the behavior… connect with the emotion. 💛

So many times, we rush to fix what we see on the outside—
the tantrum, the attitude, the defiance, the tears.

“Stop that.”
“Calm down.”
“Don’t act like that.”

But behind every behavior… is a feeling asking to be understood.

A child who is “acting out” might actually be:
– overwhelmed
– tired
– hurt
– seeking attention
– struggling to express what they don’t yet have words for

And in those moments, what they need most is not control… it’s connection.

Connection says:
“I see you.”
“I hear you.”
“You’re safe with me, even in this moment.”

Because when a child feels understood, their walls come down.
Their nervous system settles.
Their heart softens.

And only then… are they ready to learn.

Correction without connection often leads to shame.
But connection before correction builds trust, emotional safety, and lifelong security.

So next time your child is struggling, pause and ask yourself:
“What is my child feeling right now… and how can I meet them there first?”

Connect first.
Then correct.

That’s where real growth begins.
