If you are a special needs parent, ONE OF YOUR BIGGEST FEARS IS "REGRESSION"—watching your child finally master a skill (like talking, potty training, or staying calm) only to suddenly lose it.

It is incredibly stressful. But did you know that keeping a CONSISTENT THERAPY SCHEDULE is one of your strongest shields against skill loss?

Here is why never skipping therapy is so vital to preventing regression:

1. It’s their anchor.
When life changes (like starting a new school year), it stresses kids out. Keeping their regular therapy schedule gives them a familiar, safe routine so they don't get overwhelmed and slide backward.

2. Catching it early.
Therapists can see the warning signs that a child is getting exhausted before they actually lose a skill. Staying consistent lets the therapist fix the problem early.

3. Change the plan, don’t cancel.
If your kid is having a terrible week, don't skip therapy! Just tell the therapist. They can stop the hard work and use the session just to help your child calm down and feel safe.

Other ways to help your kids at home:
- Keep daily schedules the same.
Doing things at the same time every day makes them feel safe.

- Check for pain.
Make sure they aren't losing skills just because a tooth or their tummy hurts.

- Let them rest.
If they are exhausted, take the pressure off and let them have quiet time.

Consistency isn't about pushing your child harder—it's about giving them a continuous, safe space to maintain the amazing progress they've made.
