SUCCESS FAP Project Site Visit in Sicogon Island, Carles
Comprising the barangays of Buaya, San Fernando, and Alipata, Sicogon Island has achieved an outstanding milestoneโ100% Cervical Health Screening coverage among women aged 30โ49 years using HPV DNA self-collection test kits.
The SUCCESS FAP Team from Expertise France commended the remarkable and coordinated efforts of the Barangay Officials, Barangay Health Workers, Carles Primary Care Facility personnel, peer navigators, and the women of the community.
Achieving complete screening coverage among all eligible women across an entire island is no small feat and is rarely accomplished.
In recognition of this exceptional achievement, the team acknowledged Sicogon Island, Carles as potentially the first island community in Southeast Asia to attain such a high cervical cancer screening rate, setting a remarkable example for communities across the region in advancing cervical cancer prevention and womenโs health.
The project team from the DOH, Expertise France, Cancer Warriors Foundation and Iloilo PHO urged local stakeholders to sustain and strengthen their cervical health initiatives to ensure that women in the community remain protected from cervical cancer.
This includes maintaining high HPV vaccination coverage among girls aged 9โ14 years and ensuring that all eligible women undergo regular cervical cancer screening every five years starting at the age of 30.
