Why do Dentists often discourage tooth extraction in the late afternoon or evening❓🤔

1. Increased Bleeding Risk
-The body’s natural circadian rhythm affects blood clotting, and research suggests that clotting is more efficient in the morning than in the evening. This can mean a higher risk of prolonged bleeding and slower clot formation after an extraction later in the day.

2. Slower Healing & Recovery
-Healing tends to be more effective earlier in the day when the body is more active. Metabolism and immune responses slow down in the evening, potentially delaying the healing process.

3. Higher Pain Sensitivity
-Studies indicate that pain perception increases in the evening due to changes in body temperature and hormone levels, making the post-extraction experience more uncomfortable.

4. Emergency Availability
-If complications arise (such as excessive bleeding or dry socket), dental clinics may be closed or understaffed in the evening, making immediate assistance harder to access.

5. Fatigue & Stress
-Patients and dentists are often more fatigued in the late afternoon and evening, which could impact both the patient’s comfort and the dentist’s precision during the procedure.

Because of these factors, many dentists prefer scheduling extractions in the morning or early afternoon when conditions are more favorable for healing and patient safety.

Many parents think losing baby teeth early is not a big deal… but it actually can change how permanent teeth grow.

Baby teeth are not just “temporary.”
They quietly hold space for the adult teeth developing underneath.

When a baby tooth is lost too soon — because of decay or injury — that space doesn’t stay empty for long.

The nearby teeth slowly start shifting into it.
And when that happens, the permanent tooth below loses its path.

It may:
• Come out in the wrong position
• Get stuck inside the gums (impacted)
• Or cause crowding and crooked teeth

This is one of the most common reasons children later need braces.

The important part?
This can often be prevented.

Dentists can place a small appliance called a space maintainer to keep that gap open until the permanent tooth is ready.

And if you ever notice permanent teeth coming behind baby teeth (often called “shark teeth”), it’s a sign to get it checked early.

Simple takeaway:
Baby teeth guide the future smile.
Losing them too early can disturb that entire process.

All these instruments… para sa isang “simpleng bunot lang”. Which by the way took us 1 1/2 hrs 🥲

Minsan may magsasabi, “Bakit mahal magpabunot? Tatanggalin LANG naman yung ngipin.”

But here’s the truth: tooth extraction is more than just pulling a tooth out.

It means:
1. Making sure no surrounding teeth, bone, or soft tissues are damaged.
2. Protecting nerves and blood vessels
3. Keeping you comfortable and pain-controlled
4. Ensuring the site heals properly for your future pustiso, bridge, or implant
5. Preventing post-operative complications

These instruments? This is just a fraction of a full surgical set. Each one has faced teeth that were beyond saving. Each one plays a role in making sure you leave the clinic safe.

So the next time you undergo an extraction, remember:
we’re not charging you for “just bunot.”

You’re investing in safety, precision, training, sterility, and years of expertise.

We’re not being mukhang pera.
We’re making sure you heal well and smile confidently again. 🦷

🍼 Putting a baby to sleep with a bottle may seem comforting, but it’s one of the most common causes of early tooth decay in infants — medically known as Baby Bottle Caries or Nursing Bottle Caries. It occurs when liquids like milk, formula, or juice stay in contact with baby teeth for long periods, especially during sleep.

During sleep, saliva flow drops, reducing the mouth’s natural cleansing ability. The sugars in milk or juice then feed oral bacteria, which release acids that attack the enamel. Over time, this leads to rapid and severe decay — typically seen on the upper front teeth, spreading to molars if untreated.

Dentists often identify this pattern of decay by its characteristic brown or black spots near the gum line. It can cause pain, feeding difficulties, and infection, affecting speech and the alignment of permanent teeth later in life. Unfortunately, many parents only notice it once visible damage has already occurred.

To prevent it, experts recommend: avoid letting babies sleep with bottles containing anything other than water, wipe gums with a clean cloth after feeding, and start gentle brushing once the first tooth erupts. Early dental visits — ideally by age one — help detect any early signs and guide parents toward lifelong oral health habits.

🚫 Why Does a 14-Year-Old End Up with DESTROYED TEETH?

When we see a teenager with severely damaged teeth, the main cause is usually advanced dental caries, resulting from a combination of factors:

1. Poor oral hygiene: Lack of proper brushing and flossing allows dental plaque and food debris to progressively destroy the enamel.

2. High-sugar diet: Frequent consumption of sodas, packaged juices, cookies, candies, and snacks is one of the leading triggers of aggressive caries in children and adolescents.

3. Lack of dental check-ups: Many parents only take their children to the dentist when pain or visible problems appear. By then, the damage is often already advanced.

4. Socioeconomic and cultural factors: Limited access to dental care, lack of oral health education, and normalizing dental pain contribute to worsening conditions.

5. Emotional or personal neglect: In some cases, poor oral hygiene may be linked to depression, anxiety, or family neglect.

👉 A 14-year-old with destroyed teeth is not only facing an aesthetic issue but also chronic pain, infections, eating difficulties, and low self-esteem.

Prevention is key: teaching oral hygiene from early childhood, scheduling dental visits every 6 months, and reducing sugar intake are fundamental steps to avoid reaching this stage.

Why Toothache Gets Worse at Night — The Real Reason Behind It.

Many people notice their toothache feels more intense when they lie down — especially at night. It’s not psychological. It’s biological.

When you lie flat, gravity shifts blood flow toward your head. This increases blood volume around the infected tooth, raising internal pressure in the pulp chamber — a closed space that can't expand.
The result? Throbbing, pulsing pain that worsens even if you’re resting.

In cases of irreversible pulpitis or deep decay, the inflamed nerve tissue reacts more aggressively when the body is in a horizontal position. Add to that the lack of distractions at night, and the pain feels magnified.

If your tooth hurts more when lying down, it's a red flag that the pulp may be severely inflamed or infected — and likely needs immediate dental treatment such as root canal therapy.
Delaying may lead to abscess, bone infection, or facial swelling.

If you think that baby teeth are temporary, and therefore, not important? Well, think again.

Healthy baby teeth will usually result in healthy permanent teeth. Children who constantly drink from bottle is at higher risk of developing baby bottle tooth decay also known as "early childhood caries." It is a common problem among children under the age of five but can be avoided through awareness and prevention such as:

• Wipe your baby's gums with a clean, damp gauze pad or washcloth after feeding.

• Never let your baby fall asleep with a bottle filled with milk, juice, or soda in their mouth.

• Teach your child to drink from a cup by the age of 1 and discourage frequent or prolonged use of a training or sippy cup.

• Never give your child a pacifier dipped in anything sweet.

• Limit the amount of sweet or sticky foods your child eats.

• When your child’s first tooth appears, brush it with fluoride toothpaste and talk to your dentist about scheduling the first dental visit.
