LOOK: Dr. Khoo Kei Siong, the Deputy Medical Director and Senior Consultant in Medical Oncology at Parkway Cancer Centre, Singapore, said cancer is often silent in its early stages and is usually detected only when it has already advanced, emphasizing that the absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean a person is cancer-free.

"No symptoms doesn't mean no cancer. No symptoms is actually the stage where we want to find cancer and treat it more effectively," Dr. Siong said.

While Dr. Siong acknowledged that cancer screening can be uncomfortable and intimidating for many people, he encouraged Cebuanos to undergo regular screening.

He emphasized that the tests may take only a few minutes, they can detect cancer early, increasing the chances of successful treatment and turning what could become an incurable disease into a curable one.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the Philippines. Around 4,052 Filipinas die from cervical cancer each year, making it one of the country's most significant health concerns among women.
