Last 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, UP Pre-Medical Society Cebu took part in 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐠-𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐍𝐔–𝐕𝐒𝐌𝐌𝐂.

The day was filled with exploration, from touring different facilities to joining interactive quizzes and games that made the experience both fun and meaningful. The welcoming atmosphere and hands-on activities gave a clearer glimpse of what life in CNU–VSMMC could look like, leaving a strong and lasting impression on the visiting students.

More than just a tour, the visit sparked excitement and motivation, with many seeing the school as a place where growth and purpose come together. Each stop like this brings the dream closer and makes the journey feel more real.

Gratitude is extended to the organizers of Project Pag-agak and to CNU–VSMMC for opening their doors and sharing such an inspiring experience.

𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰—𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥.

As National Women's Month comes to a close, the conversations we started shouldn’t end with it. Women’s health, experiences, and voices deserve to be seen, heard, and taken seriously—every single day.

𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐜𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐎𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 (𝐏𝐂𝐎𝐒) is a common hormonal condition that affects many people with ovaries—yet it's still widely misunderstood and often brushed off as something minor. It doesn't look the same for everyone. For some, it means irregular periods or skin concerns. For others, it shows up through weight changes, hair thinning or excess hair growth, or fertility challenges. And beyond the visible symptoms, there's an emotional weight that comes with it—feeling frustrated, unheard, or disconnected from your own body.

PCOS can also come with increased health risks like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. But what makes it harder is the stigma—when symptoms are dismissed, when people are reduced to how they look, or when their experiences aren’t taken seriously.

No one should have to go through that alone. Understanding PCOS starts with listening. With creating spaces where people feel safe to speak, ask, and be supported without judgment. Because behind every experience is a person who deserves care, respect, and to be taken seriously.

Get informed.
Listen with empathy.
Support the cysterhood.

Our Med Talk became more than just a learning session—it became a space where women came together to listen, share, and embrace a deeper understanding of their health. In a world where women’s concerns are often overlooked or misunderstood, moments like these remind us of the power of showing up for ourselves and for one another.

Through conversations on PCOS and hormonal health, we were reminded that awareness is not just about knowledge—it is about empowerment. It is about recognizing our experiences, trusting our bodies, and having the confidence to seek care, ask questions, and break the silence surrounding women’s health.

There is strength in informed women—women who understand their bodies, who support each other, and who refuse to let stigma define their stories. When women are given the right knowledge and safe spaces to learn, they become advocates not only for themselves, but for others as well.

To every woman who took part, listened, and engaged—this space was made powerful because of you. May we continue to uplift one another, create conversations that matter, and stand firmly in the importance of women’s health and well-being.

When fuel prices rise, it is the people who bear the cost—not only at the pump, but through their health, their access to care, and their ability to sustain daily living. This crisis reveals deeper structural failures that continue to place profit above people.

The UP Pre-Medical Society Cebu calls for urgent, people-centered government intervention that prioritizes the most vulnerable sectors and delivers immediate, targeted relief. We call for the repeal of policies that enable unchecked oil price increases, the removal of excessive taxes on petroleum products, the establishment of fair and livable wages, and the provision of direct support to transport workers and low-income communities.

Beyond immediate responses, we further call for long-term structural reforms that strengthen national control over essential industries and safeguard the public.

This Women’s Month, we celebrate not only the strength, resilience, and achievements of women, but also the importance of prioritizing women’s health and well-being. In line with this, we invite you to join our upcoming Medical Talk on Understanding PCOS and Hormonal Health, a timely and meaningful discussion that sheds light on one of the most common hormonal conditions affecting women today— 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐜𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐎𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 (𝐏𝐂𝐎𝐒).

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐌𝐄𝐃!

𝐇𝐈𝐕/𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐒 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚 𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥, 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞. It’s a health condition—and it’s something we should talk about openly, with facts and compassion, not fear or judgment. Right now, the Philippines has one of the fastest-growing HIV rates in the Asia-Pacific region, and staying silent isn’t helping anyone.

HIV isn’t just an “LGBTQ+ issue.” Anyone can get it, straight, q***r, male, female, young, old. The virus doesn’t care who you are, but stigma does. Blaming one group, shaming people, or spreading misinformation only puts lives at risk. It stops people from getting tested, from seeking treatment, and from living openly and safely.

HIV does not make someone less human, less deserving, or less valuable. If anything, living with HIV shows the strength to survive, to seek treatment, and to keep going in a world that still often chooses judgment over understanding. With proper care, people living with HIV can live long, healthy lives and continue to love and thrive. Breaking the stigma starts with learning instead of assuming, supporting instead of shaming, and understanding that health has no orientation and dignity has no conditions.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞!

On 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟐𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, UP Pre-Medical Society Cebu was deeply honored to venture into the learning halls of the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞, imparting valuable knowledge on their excellence and competency for future doctors. It served as a wonderful opportunity to get to know the campus, ask questions to the faculty members, and ultimately learn about the student life, as one may take inspiration to embark on their very own journey here, where one is “Driven to excel. Driven to serve.”

The UPPMSC members were warmly welcomed and introduced to the university by Dr. Herminia H. Manlangit. During the discussion, the members were able to learn the UCnian way, inquire about the curriculum and scholarship opportunities, crucial for mapping out one’s future trajectory in medicine. The talk also enabled them to gain insight into the school student life, such as from our very own UP Cebu BS Biology Alumni, Kate Guinocor. With her words, she reminds us of the heart it takes to serve the people, which is why, despite the long readings she’d experienced, Kate says that “they didn’t feel very heavy after all because I knew what they were for.”

Upon touring the university, members were introduced to their various learning facilities on collaborative-based and self-study learning spaces, as well as clinical and laboratory rooms. In exploring their halls, they had also observed medical students in their element, studying in the library or in group discussions. They were able to inquire about the delivery of examinations and were provided with crucial study tips by the medical students on cultivating a holistic study habit.

With this second stop of our Med-School Tour, we sincerely envisioned that one’s passion for medicine would be further enriched as future opportunities arose and the pursuit of knowledge be prudently cultivated.
