EARLY INFLUENCE:

I was already attracted to tattoo way back when I was kid, I’ve seen someone getting tattooed and known someone who's heavily tattooed at that time. It was all just appreciation of the art. However, at back of my mind I know that I will get tattooed someday. Also being in a band in my college days and exposed to local music scene, listening to metal and hardcore bands really influenced my mindset and the aesthetic aspect of it.

HOW I STARTED:

I met Paul Orellano, he and my brother know each other and they’re also neighbors with my friend, where we usually hang-out during my college days. At that time Paul O. just started tattooing (2010) and I’m also eager to get tattooed already. So I got my first tattoo from him, I became his model in tattoo competitions, and I got several tattoos from him after that. While getting tattooed, I frequently ask questions regarding the application of tattoo, technique, styles, etc. I even encourage some of my artist friends to start tattooing, but they’re not seem interested. Unknowingly, I’m the one who wants to learn to tattoo. :)

I basically started my tattooing journey in 2016. I researched on how to get inside the industry, I made portfolios / artworks and sent an application to local shops hoping to get an apprenticeship, and unfortunately got no reply. I learned that most shops here in Philippines does not practice apprenticeship program. I decided to teach myself the basics and luckily, Paul O. generously gives me a lot of helpful tips and advice when I was still starting. I can say that I am heavily influenced by him, aside from hardcore, the love for traditional tattoos, I also discovered Straight Edge (sobriety) and positivity in life because of him.

OTHER JOBS:

Before dipping my two feet into tattooing, I went to several day jobs. I worked as a waiter, bartender, cook, and as a call center agent. I was still afraid back then to commit full time in tattooing. I realized that I always think about tattooing most of the time or thinking that I rather be tattooing than sitting in my office chair waiting to clock out. My job at the time was mentally exhausting, so I have decided to go full time and took the risk.

WORKING IN A SHOP:

In 2017, I got the opportunity to work in one of the best tattoo shops here in Cebu City, Redeemed Tattoo. Boots Brandon and I knew each other before we started tattooing. By the time I was still starting, he noticed my works uploaded in my social media. I got in as one of the resident artists, and I also help in assisting within the shop. I’m very grateful to meet other talented people in the shop who later become my friends, they’re Coimaxx, Real, Jello, Duane, Roy, and Janot. It’s a powerhouse - I absorbed a lot of knowledge and information just from observing or simply by having a conversation with them. I am so grateful to be part of Redeemed Tattoo family!

I am currently tattooing in own private studio, within our residence. And now I’m very thankful to all of my experiences, hard lessons, and to those who genuinely supported me in my journey (you know who you guys are!).
