Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that spreads through water or soil contaminated with the urine of infected animals, especially rats. It commonly occurs after exposure to floodwater and can enter the body through cuts, wounds, or the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Early symptoms include fever, severe headache, muscle pain (especially in the calves), chills, red eyes, nausea, and vomiting. If left untreated, leptospirosis can lead to serious complications affecting the kidneys, liver, lungs, and brain. Early medical consultation and treatment are essential for a full recovery.

Protect yourself by avoiding floodwaters whenever possible, wearing boots and gloves when exposure is unavoidable, practicing good hygiene, and keeping your surroundings clean to control rats.
