Apparently, examining eyes isn’t my only skill. 🤣

My patient was learning how to put on contact lenses for the first time, so of course I had to join this TikTok trend:

𝗜𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺.

“Dawn, why have you always been so strong?”

Maybe because it has always been them.

Behind every long day at the clinic, every difficult decision as a doctor, every sleepless night building a business, and every moment of trying to be present as a mom, there has always been family.

Running a business is not always the polished version you see.
Being a doctor comes with its own weight.
And being a mother and a wife means carrying a whole different kind of responsibility.

Somehow, in the middle of all of it, I keep finding the strength to show up.

Not because I can do everything on my own.

But because I have them.

And now, as we open the doors to the new Eyecare Deluxe space in Davao, this milestone feels bigger than just a new clinic.

It is a reminder of how far we have come, the people who stood beside us, and the reason behind everything we continue to build.

Your eye drops and eyeglasses may not be enough if you have these symptoms. 👁️

Burning eyes.
A gritty or foreign body sensation.
Itching.
Light sensitivity.
Frequent headaches.

These were the symptoms that brought one of our patients to Eyecare Deluxe.

Like many people, the patient assumed it was simply dry eyes or eye strain.

But a Complete Comprehensive Eye Examination revealed that the symptoms were caused by multiple coexisting eye conditions, not just one.

We found:

🔍 Severe dry eye disease

🔍 Demodex folliculorum infestation (tiny eyelash mites that can worsen irritation and inflammation)

🔍 Mild follicular inflammation of the inner eyelids

🔍 Borderline steep corneal curvature, requiring close monitoring for possible corneal disease

🔍 Low to moderate myopia

🔍 Accommodative dysfunction and mild left exophoria, contributing to headaches and visual fatigue during reading and other near tasks

Because the problems were interconnected, the treatment had to be comprehensive.

✅ Myopia management using the most appropriate option for the patient, including eyeglasses, orthokeratology, or specialty contact lenses

This case is an important reminder that one symptom rarely tells the whole story.

Many patients have several eye conditions at the same time. Treating only one may explain why symptoms continue despite using eye drops or getting new glasses.

A short but meaningful stop to visit family in China. ❤️🇨🇳

Before continuing our trip, we made time to visit Angkong’s hometown and spend time with relatives we don’t get to see very often.

Their home was a charming four-story family house, with a small store on the ground floor, a style that’s common in many parts of China and full of character.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles, heartfelt conversations, and a table overflowing with delicious home-cooked food. It reminded us that no matter where you are in the world, family has a special way of making you feel at home.

We only wished we could have stayed longer… 😅

Unfortunately, our kids were starting to miss YouTube, and with many online services restricted in China, convincing them to stay became quite a challenge!

Still, we’re grateful for the time we shared and the memories we made together.

Sometimes, the best part of traveling isn’t visiting new places, it’s reconnecting with the people who have always been part of your story. ❤️

We flew from Hong Kong to Xiamen with Cathay Pacific, and the kids were excited from takeoff to landing.

Their favorite surprise? The complimentary kids’ headsets! 🎧 They couldn’t stop smiling and even said they felt like they were flying first class. 😂

Of course, the food was another highlight. They happily finished their siomai, dumplings, and rice, making this one of the easiest flights we’ve had as a family.

It’s funny how the smallest touches can leave the biggest impression on children.

Now, on to our next destination, Xiamen! 🇨🇳✨
