What is Melanoma?

Melanoma is considered the most dangerous form of skin cancer. While it's less common than other skin cancers like basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma is known for its ability to spread quickly and effectively to other parts of the body if left untreated.

Melanomas arise from our melanin-producing cells called melanocytes that are located in our skin at the junction of the epidermis and dermis.

They can be distinguished from normal moles or nunals through several characteristics that can be remembered through initials ABCDE.

These lesions are typically ASYMMETRIC (hindi pantay) with irregular BORDERS, have COLOR variations (hindi uniform ang kulay ng buong nunal), a DIAMETER greater than 6 mm, and are undergoing some sort of EVOLUTION or change (may pagbabago sa itsura).

Suspicious lesions should undergo excisional biopsy with 1-3 mm margins. Large tumors or those in cosmetically sensitive areas can be approached with an incisional or punch biopsy.

Lahat ba ng Almoranas kailangan operahan? Hindi.
Mayroong Internal and External Hemorrhoids. Ang Internal Hemorrhoids ay may Grade I to IV. Grade III and IV Hemorrhoids ang kailangan operahan.
Ang external hemorrhoids ay kailangan lamang operahan kung namamaga na sila, o kung maselan na ang itsura.
Kailangan ng digital re**al examination upang malaman kung anong klaseng hemorrhoids ang meron ng isang pasyente.

What is Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCCa)?

BCCa is is the most common type of skin cancer. It is more common than Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and accounts for 8/10 of all skin cancer cases.

Most BCCs develop on sun-exposed skin, such as the face, head, and neck.

They can appear as a small, pearly or waxy bump, a red patch, or a scar-like area that may bleed easily.

Thet can also present as "Rodent Ulcers". The term "rodent ulcer" is an older name for a specific type of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). It describes a lesion that looks like a small, slowly enlarging ulcer with rolled, often pearly edges. This appearance can be due to the way BCC grows and damages surrounding tissues, potentially causing the center of the lesion to break down and ulcerate.

The primary treatment is surgery, and it is highly curable when detected and treated early.

What is Squamous Cell Carcinoma?

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCCa) of the skin is of the most common types of skin cancer.

SCCA can appear as a hard, scaly patch or a wart-like growth on the skin, or as wounds that last for a long time and do not heal normally.

Squamous cells are part of the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, and also line the inner surfaces of various organs.

There are also types of Squamous Cell Carcinoma that can arise from mucosa- it can arise from the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, va**na, cervix, and a**l ca**l. These are usually associated with HPV infection.

Suspicious lesions should undergo excisional biopsy. Large tumors or those in cosmetically sensitive areas can be approached with an incisional or punch biopsy.
