Moms and Dads, protection always begins with prevention.
Here are simple but effective strategies that work against most viral and bacterial infections:

1. Practice proper hand hygiene
2. Avoid touching the face, nose, and mouth
3. Wear a mask when needed. Especially in clinics, hospitals, or schools
4. Keep your child’s vaccinations up to date

If your child shows symptoms of influenza (such as fever, cough, or colds), simple home remedies are often enough:
- Give antipyretics and decongestants as needed
- Offer any food they prefer, and add fruits and vegetables for extra nourishment
- Consider Vitamin C + Zinc supplements to help boost immunity

If symptoms persist or worsen, don’t hesitate to consult your child’s doctor for proper evaluation and care. 👩‍⚕️

KARAGDAGANG 2,525 NA KASO NG HFMD, NAITALA NG DOH SA LOOB LANG NG ISANG LINGGO

Umabot na sa 39,893 ang bilang ng kaso ng HFMD na naitala ng DOH as of August 16, 2025.

Karagdagang 2,525 na kaso ang nadagdag sa loob lang ng isang linggo mula sa 37,368 na naitala noong a-nuebe ng Agosto. Kalahati sa mga naiulat na kaso ay mga batang edad isa hanggang tatlong taong gulang.

Dahil dito, nakikipag-ugnayan na ang DOH sa mga local government units upang mapaigting ang pagmomonitor ng mga kaso ng HFMD sa mga rehiyon.

Nakakasa na rin ang pagpupulong ng healthy learning institution ng DOH upang mapag-usapan ang mga hakbang na imumungkahing isagawa para sa HFMD prevention and management sa mga eskwelahan.

Ang HFMD ay isang nakahahawang sakit na pwedeng makuha sa laway na may virus mula sa ubo, bahing, o pagsasalita. Maaari rin itong makuha sa paghawak ng mata, ilong, o bibig gamit ang kamay na nakahawak sa bagay na kontaminado ng virus.

Mabilis na makahawa ang HFMD kaya’t paalala ng DOH, lalo na sa mga magulang, na kung sakaling makaramdam ng sintomas ang anak gaya ng lagnat, singaw sa bibig, pananakit ng lalamunan, at mga butlig sa palad at talampakan ay agad na magpakonsulta sa pinakamalapit na health center.

Dagdag pa ng ahensya, para sa mga mild na kaso ng HFMD, panatilihin ang anak sa bahay nang pito hanggang sampung araw o depende sa abiso ng doktor. Paalala rin ng Kagawaran, bukod sa pagdi-disinfect ng mga kagamitan, ugaliin din ang dalawampung segundong paghuhugas ng kamay upang maiwasan ang hawahan.

𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) continues its proactive campaign to clear the streets of mendicants and protect vulnerable children from being used as tools for solicitation.

This campaign involves close coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Women and Children Protection Desk to conduct regular surveillance of children and families in street situations.

To strengthen its advocacy, the office also recently relaunched the Kean Gabriel Hotline and the Anti-Mendicancy Campaign audio material on June 18, 2025, in partnership with the PNP-Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Mobile Patrol Unit. Also, the CSWDO District Offices continue to conduct community awareness campaigns to educate grassroots communities on the anti-mendicancy law.

Julie Dayaday, CSWDO’s Head, said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio that despite persistent government efforts, cases of mendicancy persist, with adults continuing to exploit children to elicit sympathy and donations from passersby.

The CSWDO has called on Dabawenyos anew to stop giving alms to street beggars, emphasizing that such an act perpetuate the cycle of mendicancy and the exploitation of children.

The call aims to dismantle schemes, where adults use minors to solicit money from the public.

“Reminder sa mga katawhan nato sa Davao nga undangan nato ang pagpanghatag para wala na’y mga bata ug wala na’y bata nga gamiton sa mga adult para sa pagpanglimos (This is a reminder to Dabawenyos to stop giving alms to eliminate the practice of begging and to stop the exploitation of children by adults for this purpose),” Julie Dayaday, CSWDO’s Head, said in an interview.

In the Philippines, the Anti-Mendicancy Law (Presidential Decree No. 1563) criminalizes street begging. Habitual offenders face penalties of up to a Php1,000 fine and four years imprisonment. Crucially, the law also penalizes individuals who donate alms and those who exploit minors for begging. CIO

In the first two years of life most children have around 8 to 10 colds and can have more among the school-age children or if they are in a childcare setting.

Colds spread easily among children who are in close contact with one another. But do remember that most colds go away by themselves and do not lead to anything worse as most of the parents are worried about.
