𝐆𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐬, 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐚 𝐀𝐤𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧

Team had the opportunity to present the results of our Community Health Assessment to our community preceptor and Diplahan’s Municipal Health officer Doc Michael Site, who has been guiding us throughout this journey.

After weeks of house-to-house interviews, in-depth assessments, secondary data validation, and community conversations, we compiled the most pressing health issues in our assigned barangay — not just as numbers, but as real-life stories from the people we met. We highlighted key concerns such as Hypertension, Malnutrition, and Teenage Pregnancy, and shared the deeper insights we gained through risk assessments, dialogues with health officials, and focus group discussions.

Importantly, presenting our findings to the Barangay Council was a key step in transforming data into action. It opened the floor for discussion and collaboration.

This presentation is more than just a report — it’s our bridge from observation to action. It serves as the foundation for our upcoming Community Health Plan, helping us design interventions that truly respond to the needs of the community. 𝐃𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤: 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐤 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐬𝐲𝐨 𝐬𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐠!

For the second time, our team had the privilege to take part in the deworming and prenatal activity in Barangay Lindang — an important step in promoting the health of mothers and children in the community.
The We helped in checking vital signs, guiding pregnant mothers during consultations, assisting with records, and helping distribute deworming tablets to children.

Importante kaayo ang mahinayon nga pag-atiman sa mga inahan ug kabataan. Ang prenatal check-up ug deworming dili lang proteksyon, apan usa kini ka paagi sa pag-amuma sa maayong kaugmaon. Daghang salamat sa mga inahan nga mitambong, ug sa among mga BHW partners nga andam permi mutabang. Ang inyong mainitong pagdawat ug kooperasyon maoy hinungdan sa kalampusan sa kalihokan.

𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧!

In celebration of Nutrition Month, our covered court came alive with colors, smiles, and the aroma of healthy food as each purok proudly showcased their own booths filled with fresh vegetables, fruits, tanom, and creative nutrition displays.

Gidungan kini sa feeding program para sa mga kabataan, a fun and energetic Sayaw sa Nutrisyon dance contest, and friendly booth competitions — proving that health and creativity can go hand in hand! 🙌
Beyond the barangay level, we also proudly participated in the Inter-Barangay Nutrition Month Program, where each cluster set up their own themed booth. There was a cooking contest that highlighted healthy, local dishes and a lively Nutri-Pageant that celebrated confidence, wit, and wellness!

This celebration reminded us all that good nutrition starts at home, grows in the community, and thrives through participation. Daghang Salamat sa tanan nga nag participate!

After our initial community profiling last January 2024, we conducted an in-depth health assessment to better understand the pressing concerns in our barangay.

Ani-a ang Top 3 nga isyu sa panglawas nga among na-ila ug unsaon namo kini pag-ila og mas lawom pa: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐬𝐚 𝐇𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, nagbuhat kami og risk screening – gi-check ang BP, timbang, kaagi sa pamilya, ug lifestyle sa mga residente. We also asked about their access to maintenance medicines and barriers to regular check-ups.
𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐬𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, nagbuhat mi Key Informant interview ug among giadtuan ang opisina ni Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) of Diplahan, Ma’am Mary Lissa Yorong, aron hisgutan ang kahimtang sa nutrisyon sa mga bata ug programa sa feeding.
Sa isyu sa 𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲, nag-Focus group discussuion (FGD) kami uban sa mga batan-ong inahan ug nakig-interview sa Principal sa Lindang High School aron masabtan kung giunsa pag-deliver sa reproductive health education sa eskwelahan.

Kini nga assessment importante kaayo para sa among sunod nga lakang: ang paghimo sa Community Health Plan.

We are deeply grateful to the families who welcomed us into their homes, the young mothers who shared their stories, the school and health officials who offered their time, and the Barangay Health Workers who walked alongside us. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐮𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐬. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 🛡️

Strong communities are built on the well-being of mothers and children — and it all starts with access to proper prenatal care and complete immunization. These are more than just medical services; they are acts of care that protect life, promote health, and secure the future of every family.
Our team had the opportunity to be part of this vital mission during our first community engagement through a Prenatal and Immunization Activity held in our barangay in partnership with Ma’am Aira, our dedicated NDP nurse.

It was a day filled with learning, connection, and purpose. Through this activity, we helped ensure that expectant mothers received proper prenatal care, and that our little ones were protected through complete immunization. This activity also reminded us why community-based health care matters and that 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒔 — it thrives in barangay halls, health centers, and even small rural homes, where health workers, volunteers, and future doctors come together in service of the people.
We are grateful to all the mothers and families who took part, to our hardworking Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), and especially to our NDP nurse who continues to inspire us through her dedication to public health.
This is only the beginning of our shared . ⛵️🌿

𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 🌾

Our team had the privilege of joining the orientation and initial engagements with the newly appointed Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), Ma’am Gina Lingcopines — a vital frontliner in improving health and nutrition in the community.

This meaningful activity was led by the dedicated Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) of Diplahan, Ma’am Mary Lissa Yorong, who provided guidance, direction and heartfelt support as the new BNS steps into her important role.
As future doctors and public health advocates, we recognize how crucial the role of a BNS is in addressing malnutrition, food insecurity, and maternal-child health at the grassroots level. We were able to learn about the BNS’ responsibilities, including growth monitoring, nutrition education, and assisting in community feeding programs.

🤝 It was also a great opportunity for collaboration — as our team shared our community health data and experiences from our household profiling. This exchange reminded us that 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚, and it begins by empowering the very people within the community.

𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝑫𝒐𝒐𝒓: 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈

As part of our initial community assessment, we conducted house-to-house visits in January 2024, reaching 7 puroks of the Barangay Lindang— from the central residential neighborhoods to the more remote and mountainous areas.

With the guidance and help of our hardworking Barangay Health workers, we were able to interview 80% of the households, gathering essential primary data on demographics, common illnesses, water and sanitation, nutrition, and access to healthcare. To strengthen our findings, our team also reviewed secondary data provided by the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Diplahan, which included health records, disease reports, and program coverage statistics. This initial profiling allowed us to identify pressing health problems and build a clearer picture of the community’s health status.

𝑫𝒆𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒂𝒚: 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅, 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒆 🏡

In support of the Department of Health’s National Deworming Program, the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Diplahan actively encouraged families to have their children receive their scheduled deworming treatment.

Through the combined efforts of the Barangay Health Workers, the RHU, and local volunteers, both house-to-house visits and school-based deworming at Lindang High School are successfully conducted every January and July of the year. These efforts ensured not only medicine was delivered, but also that parents were well-informed about the health benefits of deworming — from improved nutrition to better focus in school. 🌱💊

By bringing health services closer to homes and classrooms, the program strengthened community awareness and empowered families to take active steps in protecting their children’s growth and development.

In a united effort led by our ever-active Barangay Captain, Kap. Rodney, residents, youth, and our team came together in a clean-up drive that turned into a morning filled with purpose, teamwork, and positive energy. ☀️

Armed with brooms, sacks, gloves, and a shared commitment to care for our surroundings, we cleared plastics, wrappers, bottles, and other litter scattered along barangay roadsides, near the Barangay Center, and around Lindang High School. It was more than just picking up trash — it was a powerful reminder that a cleaner and healthier community is possible when everyone takes part. ✨

Looking back at the day we first arrived in our assigned community — a meaningful start to our journey as Team Layag Lindang! This marked the beginning of our journey as our team conducted a courtesy visit to Honorable Mayor Palma, Municipal Mayor of Diplahan, and Dr. Site, the ever-supportive Municipal Health Officer of Diplahan. Our team was also warmly welcomed by Kap. Rodney Dela Cruz, the Barangay Captain of Lindang, whose support strengthened our commitment to serve the community.

𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙢𝙖𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚.
