The Municipal Health Office (MHO) of General Luna wishes to inform the public regarding the reported ๐’…๐’๐’ˆ-๐’ƒ๐’Š๐’•๐’† ๐’Š๐’๐’„๐’Š๐’…๐’†๐’๐’•๐’” that occurred on 30 ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’š 2026 along the ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’ ๐‘บ๐’Œ๐’‚๐’•๐’† ๐‘น๐’๐’‚๐’…, Barangay Malinao, General Luna, Surigao del Norte.

Earlier today, Dr. Arman Carl Dulay, Municipal Health Officer, together with Mr. Jun Ca**ta of the Municipal Agriculture Office, conducted a fact-finding visit and coordinated with Barangay Malinao officials regarding the incident.

During the visit, they met with Hon. Arnulfo Alcala, Punong Barangay of Malinao, and Hon. Jessie Santiago, Chairperson on Health of the Sangguniang Barangay. Based on information gathered from the barangay and initial reports from affected individuals, the biting incidents were described as unprovoked, with the animal allegedly biting multiple persons without any reported acts of teasing, handling, or aggression directed toward it immediately prior to the attacks.

The incident had been reported to local authorities. Initial reports indicate that six (6) individuals were allegedly bitten during the incident. First aid was immediately provided by personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). As of this writing, five (5) of the six (6) reported bite victims have already received anti-rabies vaccination at the General Luna Primary Care Facility and other private healthcare facilities.

Rabies is a preventable but almost always fatal disease once symptoms appear. Prompt wound care and timely vaccination save lives.

Residents and visitors are likewise reminded to:
โ€ข Avoid approaching or handling stray animals.
โ€ข Immediately wash bite or scratch wounds thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes.
โ€ข Seek medical attention as soon as possible following any animal bite or scratch.
โ€ข Report stray or aggressive animals to the Barangay or Municipal Agriculture Office.

The Municipal Health Office, Municipal Agriculture Office, Barangay Malinao, and other concerned agencies continue to coordinate to ensure public safety and promote responsible animal management within the municipality.
