What does this toothbrush have to do with your heart? A worn-out toothbrush isn’t very good at keeping your teeth clean and your gums healthy. And poor dental health has been linked to a higher risk for heart disease and high blood pressure. For a healthy smile (and to support a healthy heart), dentists recommend replacing toothbrushes every 3-4 months or more often if the bristles are matted or frayed.

This is what an untreated cavity really looks like — from the inside.

The dark area at the top is advanced dental caries, where bacteria have destroyed the enamel and dentin. Beneath it lies the pulp chamber, rich in nerves and blood vessels — shown here inflamed and exposed.

Once decay reaches this depth, pain is no longer just “toothache.” It is nerve infection, inflammation, and a gateway for bacteria to enter the bloodstream.

At this stage, a simple filling is no longer enough. Treatment usually requires root canal therapy or extraction — both more complex, costly, and invasive than early care.

Many parents think losing baby teeth early is not a big deal… but it actually can change how permanent teeth grow.

Baby teeth are not just “temporary.”
They quietly hold space for the adult teeth developing underneath.

When a baby tooth is lost too soon — because of decay or injury — that space doesn’t stay empty for long.

The nearby teeth slowly start shifting into it.
And when that happens, the permanent tooth below loses its path.

It may:
• Come out in the wrong position
• Get stuck inside the gums (impacted)
• Or cause crowding and crooked teeth

This is one of the most common reasons children later need braces.

The important part?
This can often be prevented.

Dentists can place a small appliance called a space maintainer to keep that gap open until the permanent tooth is ready.

And if you ever notice permanent teeth coming behind baby teeth (often called “shark teeth”), it’s a sign to get it checked early.

Simple takeaway:
Baby teeth guide the future smile.
Losing them too early can disturb that entire process.
