Before, I used to think that going to the gym is only for those who wanted to bulk their muscles up for the sake of vanity.
However, a lot of evidence show that going to the gym actually gives more health benefits than I thought.
Why can it make you healthy?
Going to the gym is healthy because it combines CARDIO and RESISTANCE training - two powerful forms of exercise that protect your heart, build physical strength, and improve metabolism. Combining both gives your body a complete workout.
Why Resistance Training is Healthy?
✔️Stronger muscles and bones: Lifting weights or using resistance bands builds muscle mass and increases bone density to prevent injury.
✔️Better metabolism: Building muscle helps your body process sugar properly and burns more calories even when you are resting.
✔️Long-term independence: Strength training protects your body against frailty and aging that is why you noticed that people who regularly go to the gym look and feel younger than their age. 💪🏻
Why Cardio is Healthy?
✔️Stronger heart: Exercises like running or cycling make your heart pump faster, lowering blood pressure and protecting your heart.
✔️Better breathing: It trains your lungs to take in and use oxygen more efficiently.
✔️More energy: Regular aerobic movement reduces stress and boosts daily stamina.
However, doing just Cardio workouts alone and skipping resistance training leads to three main issues: muscle loss, a slower metabolism, and weaker bones leading to sort of musculoskeletal injuries.
While cardio helps your heart and burns calories, it does not give your muscles the push they need to stay strong and grow.
The gym is the primary baseline workout for all sports, offering foundational movements like the squat, deadlift, and push-up that build overall strength and prevent injury. And one thing more, going to the gym is affordable. If you do the math, ₱1000/month gym membership is equivalent to investing just around ₱30/day for the sake of your health.
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Among the many risk factors that predispose a patient to CVD development and progression, a sedentary lifestyle, characterized by consistently low levels of physical activity, is now recognized as a leading contributor to poor cardiovascular health.
Conversely, it is widely accepted that regular physical activity is beneficial for cardiovascular health. Frequent exercise is robustly associated with a decrease in cardiovascular deaths as well as the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Physically active individuals have lower blood pressure, higher insulin sensitivity, and a more favorable plasma lipoprotein profile.
This inspires us to open EGYm Fitness Center because as medical doctors, rather than just prescribing medicines, we want to empower a healthy version of you.
To someone who gets to see sick and dying patients almost everyday for 7 years, we think its refreshing to meet individuals trying to get physically and mentally healthy once in a while in the gym because we understand that our health is everything and prevention is a whole lot better than cure.
