House Bill 2943, the βPreventive & Lifestyle Medicine Act of the Philippines,β seeks to make evidence-based preventive and lifestyle interventions more accessible and affordable for Filipinosβincluding patients at risk of chronic kidney disease and those in its earlier stages.
Today, we invest substantial healthcare resources in dialysis, kidney transplantation, and post-transplant care. These services are essential and life-saving. But we must also ask:
What if we invested moreβearlierβto help prevent or slow the progression of chronic kidney disease before patients reach kidney failure?
Evidence-based lifestyle therapy, integrated with appropriate medical management, can address major modifiable drivers of chronic disease and support better cardiometabolic and kidney health.
This is not about replacing dialysis, transplantation, medications, or specialty care. It is about strengthening the healthcare continuum by making prevention and lifestyle treatment accessible before advanced disease develops.
A sustainable healthcare system should not only pay for the consequences of chronic disease. It should invest in preventing those consequences whenever possible.
From reactive care to proactive care.
From treating complications to addressing their causes and risk factors.
From disease management to prevention.
Join the Philippine College of Lifestyle Medicine in supporting the passage of House Bill 2943 β the Preventive & Lifestyle Medicine Act of the Philippines.
Let us make preventive and lifestyle medicine accessible, evidence-based, and part of mainstream healthcare.
The issue is not a choice between prevention and dialysis. The central issue is why public financing becomes so much more generous after kidneys fail than before they do.
