The importance of FLU vaccine

SCABIES is a contagious skin infestation caused by the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabiei, which burrows into the upper layer of skin to live and lay eggs.

Symptoms:
🫆causes an intense, itchy rash—typically worse at night—and spreads through direct, prolonged skin-to-skin contact
🫆 pimple-like bumps and tiny, burrow lines
🫆 rash often appearing between fingers, on wrists, elbows, armpits, and the waistline

Transmission:
Highly contagious, spreading mainly through close physical contact, though it can survive on bedding or clothing for 2-5 days.

Cause:
🫆 A parasite, not poor hygiene.

Treatment:
Scabies requires medical treatment (such as prescription creams or medications) to kill the mites and eggs. Everyone in a household usually needs treatment at the same time to prevent re-infection.

Crusted Scabies: A severe form, often called "Norwegian scabies," that occurs in immunocompromised or elderly individuals, featuring thick crusts containing high numbers of mites.

The importance of FLU vaccine

Kids need the annual flu vaccine primarily to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death from influenza.

Recommendatuon:
🫆 for everyone 6 months and older because it significantly reduces the risk of serious complications, such as pneumonia and brain swelling (acute necrotizing encephalopathy).

Reasons for Childhood Flu Vaccination:
⚠️ Protects Against Serious Complications:
The flu can be much worse than a cold, causing high fever, severe illness, and hospitalization, especially in young children.

⚠️ Reduces Hospitalization and Death:
Studies show that vaccination reduces the risk of severe, life-threatening influenza in children by 75%. It has been shown to reduce flu-related pediatric hospitalizations by 41% and emergency room visits by half.

⚠️ Protects High-Risk Individuals:
Infants under 6 months (who are too young for the vaccine), the elderly, and those with chronic health issues like asthma are at higher risk of complications. Vaccinating children creates a protective "bubble" for these vulnerable groups.

⚠️ The Virus Changes Yearly:
Flu viruses mutate constantly, meaning last year’s protection may not be effective against this year's strains.

⚠️ Provides Better Protection for Babies:
A 2023 study found that vaccination during pregnancy reduced the risk of flu-related emergency visits by half in infants under 3 months.

ASCARIASIS is an infection caused by a parasitic roundworm called *Ascaris lumbricoides*. It is one of the most common intestinal worm infections worldwide, especially in areas with poor sanitation.

People get infected by accidentally swallowing worm eggs from contaminated:

* Food
* Water
* Soil
* Unwashed hands

After the eggs are swallowed:

1. The larvae hatch in the intestines
2. Travel through the bloodstream to the lungs
3. Move up the throat and are swallowed again
4. Grow into adult worms in the intestines

Symptoms can include:

* Belly pain or bloating
* Nausea or vomiting
* Cough or wheezing
* Poor appetite
* Diarrhea
* Poor growth or weight loss in children
* Worms appearing in stool or vomit

Some people have no symptoms, especially with mild infection.

Complications may occur if there are many worms, including:

* Intestinal blockage
* Malnutrition
* Blockage of the bile duct or pancreas

Diagnosis is usually through:

* Stool examination for parasite eggs
* Sometimes imaging if obstruction is suspected

Treatment is commonly with deworming medicines.

Prevention includes:

* Proper handwashing
* Washing fruits and vegetables well
* Safe drinking water
* Good sanitation and toilet hygiene

What to do when a child has SEIZURE?

A seizure in a child can be frightening, but what you do in those moments matters a lot. The priority is to keep the child safe and monitor what’s happening.

🌺 During the seizure:

1. Gently lay the child on their side (recovery position). This helps keep the airway clear.
2. Move nearby objects away so they don’t get injured.
3. Loosen tight clothing, especially around the neck.
4. Time the seizure if you can—this is important information for doctors.
5. Stay calm and stay with the child the entire time.

☣️ Do NOT:

1. Do not put anything in their mouth (no spoon, fingers, etc.).
2. Do not try to hold them down or stop the movements.
3. Do not give food or drink until they are fully awake.

🍎 After the seizure:

1. The child may be confused, sleepy, or have a headache—this is normal.
2. Let them rest and monitor their breathing.
3. Offer reassurance as they regain awareness.

⚠️ Call emergency help immediately if:

1. The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes.
2. Another seizure starts right after the first.
3.The child has difficulty breathing or doesn’t wake up.
4. It’s their first seizure.
5. The seizure happened in water or caused a serious injury.

🫆🫆🫆If the child has a known condition like Epilepsy, follow their prescribed emergency plan if one exists.
