It has been a grave concern that "sari-sari stores" are selling antibiotics, especially amoxicillin, when they are not even licensed. These type of stores should not resell antibiotics as they are not even authorized, it is not their field of profession. There are specific reasons why each of them needs prescription from a doctor, and not just for resellingโ it is alarming that they distribute antibiotics to citizens even without license or prescription. Pharmacies should prevent on selling antibiotics to "sari-sari store" owners as well even without prescription to resell the distributed medications.
โ
โWe believe that "sari-sari stores" should not sell amoxicillin or any kinds of antibiotics. These medicines are not ordinary products because they can effect the patient's health if it is used in the wrong way. Many of these patients use these antibiotics for simple illnesses like coughs or colds without knowing if it is effective or not. This action leads to antibiotic resistance, where the medicines are no longer working properly against any diseases. The "sari-sari store" owners also are not trained to give the correct advice about the dosage, side effects and the proper uses.
โ
โThis way of dispensing antibiotics should not be normalized, and only professionals are allowed to do so. Only authorized pharmacies and hospitals are allowed to sell antibiotics with proper prescription. "Sari-sari stores" should stop reselling medicines as it can lead to harmful effects. Pharmacies should also stop dispensing medicines when there are no prescription. It is best to consult professionals rather than deciding to go in accessible and cheap choices when once consumed, it becomes more expensive to treat.
