I get a lot of requests to start fresh piercings with rings so I want to share with you guys why I typically recommend against it!
Rings tend to interfere with and prolong the healing of a fresh piercing, even hindering healing completely, due to their shape and size. Some piercings can heal well with rings but only if they’re of the appropriate gauge and diameter. Having the proper style and size jewelry can help prevent irritation, bumps, and scarring along with other issues. Most piercings should be at minimum 4 - 6 months old before switching to a ring.
