After a year filled with so many amazing moments at the College of Nursing, we are finally settling down to reflect on all that we accomplished together.

Before this school year officially ends, we would like to take some time to remember the many long nights, the chaos and beauty of what occurred behind the scenes, and how far we have come by the bylines.

Our year began with the mission to reflect the pulse of our campus, and what a beautiful, wild heartbeat it has been!

During our time, we captured every moment of our lives while experiencing both the highs and lows from the late night light of computer screens to the phenomenal energy of live coverage for both events on and off campus.

Through every high and low, we aimed to be the true vessel of truth and the unwavering heart of the news for the College of Nursing's student body.

This school year we also took a giant leap forward into our dreams, allowing us to break the old molds and create a new, fresh look for our organization. Standing proud as the Second Most Outstanding Publication of the University, we proved that student-nurse-journalists can hold both a stethoscope and a pen with equal, unmatched excellence.

We did not do what we did for recognition, but to uphold the three words that have always guided us: to Inform, to Involve, and to Inspire.

By turning narratives into purpose, we remind every reader that their stories matter and have the power to create change.

To our readers, our peers, and our future colleagues: thank you for trusting us with your stories, your victories, and your voices.

Thank you for always being so patient with us and for guiding our hands and minds through every shift. You don't just teach us how to be great nurses; you show us how to stay composed and face any challenge with total grace and confidence.

May this year bring you all the peace, joy, and abundant blessings you deserve. We are so incredibly grateful to have you as our mentor.

First grade. A diary. Not the kind filled with doodles or childhood wishes, but with something far heavier: the raw, unfiltered experience of a neurospicy child being bullied, mocked, and discriminated against. Writing was not a pastime. It was the only space that did not judge him, did not laugh, did not turn away. For ๐‰๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐ก๐จ ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐œ๐จ ๐‰๐š๐ง๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐š๐ง, that diary was the first place he first found his voice.

That early habit, born out of pain, quietly followed him through every chapter of his life. Through high school, through the choice to pursue nursing, through the demands of clinical duty and sleepless nights. Writing stayed while everything else shifted.

And now, years after that first diary entry, Jericho stands as the ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐ฉ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ of the ๐„๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐›๐š๐ง ๐‰๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐š ๐€๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐„๐ฑ๐œ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐ข๐ง ๐‚๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐–๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ , West Visayas State University's recognition for the student who best wields the written word with purpose and craft.
He had no idea it was coming. When Prof. Maylin Habaรฑa and Prof. Sheila Beliran first urged him to apply, he simply trusted them and tried. Dr. Penuela and Sir Jevan Roquios then forged his spirit further. And through all of it was his family, the same people who gave him that first diary and never stopped believing in the boy who filled it. Looking back on the moment, he still struggles to describe it."๐‘ฐ ๐’‰๐’๐’๐’†๐’”๐’•๐’๐’š ๐’‡๐’†๐’๐’• ๐’”๐’–๐’“๐’‘๐’“๐’Š๐’”๐’†๐’…. ๐‘ฐ ๐’…๐’Š๐’… ๐’๐’๐’• ๐’†๐’™๐’‘๐’†๐’„๐’• ๐’Š๐’• ๐’‚๐’• ๐’‚๐’๐’," he says.

Among his submissions was his entry for the DAISY International Award, a piece about what it truly means to answer the call of nursing. ๐’Ž๐’š ๐’†๐’š๐’†๐’” ๐’•๐’ ๐’Ž๐’š ๐’•๐’“๐’–๐’† ๐’„๐’‚๐’๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’‚๐’” ๐’‚ ๐’๐’–๐’“๐’”๐’†," he says.

That is the kind of writing Jericho lives by: not for clout, not for trophies, but to make people feel what he feels, to move them toward compassion, toward action, toward each other. For him, a piece without purpose is a piece without life.
The greatest challenge to his writing is not criticism, not blank pages, not the fear of being read. It is time. Nursing school demands everything and leaves little room for rest, let alone art. He started a fiction novel in Level 1, made it to Chapter 7, and had to set it aside. But he found a way to work with inspiration rather than against it .

This award brought back the memory of that dark chapter. But it brought something else too, something he is still learning to hold. To every aspiring writer sitting on a piece they are afraid to share, his advice is simple and hard-won: "๐‘ฉ๐’†๐’๐’Š๐’†๐’—๐’† ๐’Š๐’ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’—๐’‚๐’๐’–๐’† ๐’๐’‡ ๐’š๐’๐’–๐’“ ๐’๐’˜๐’ ๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’Š๐’†๐’”.

Not every voice begins out loud. Some are built quietly, through years of showing up with nothing but a page and the courage to continue. Echoโ€™s journey shows that persistence is often the unseen force behind every breakthrough, and that the things that sustain us in our hardest moments can become the very things that shape our future.
And perhaps it is fitting that his name is Echoโ€”because what is written, what is felt, and what is lived does not simply stay in one place. It lingers, it returns, it carries forward. In every word he has written since that first diary, there is a reminder that even silence has a way of speaking back.

The program opened with registration and vital signs screening at 8:00 a.m., followed by the singing of the Pambansang Awit and an opening prayer presented through multimedia. Activity coordinator Ana Mae A. Secherita delivered opening remarks, and Barangay Council Lordene D. Lim offered a welcome message that set the tone for a day dedicated to maternal care. Community song leaders Reido H. Lego and Winnie T. Cabelara led participants in a brief musical reflection, creating an atmosphere of warmth and solidarity.

Central to the activity was a practical session called โ€œ๐—ฃ๐˜€๐˜†๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€: โ€˜๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฎ ๐—ฆ, ๐—œ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€ ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€,'" which introduced simple, accessible techniques mothers can use to manage tension and protect their mental health. Faculty resource speakers Prof. Virginia F. Federiso and Prof. Besie A. Duran combined evidence-based guidance with culturally relevant examples, while an open forum gave mothers space to ask questions, share lived experiences, and receive tailored responses grounded in both professional expertise and community realities.

The interactive formatโ€”lecture, demonstration, and conversational exchangeโ€”turned the seminar into shared experiential learning rather than a one-way presentation. An evaluation team administered pre- and post-tests to measure knowledge gains and the immediate effect of the session on participantsโ€™ understanding of stress management and psychological self-care.

The program aligns with three United Nations Sustainable Development Goalsโ€”SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). In partnership with the WVSU Guidance Office and the WVSU Medical Center Psychiatric Department, BLOSSOM is a collaborative initiative tackling the often unseen mental-health needs of Filipino mothers, promoting quality education and fostering societal change one mother and one family at a time.

Certificates were awarded, evaluations completed, and participants left with IEC materials and practical tools to apply at home.

Beyond the facts and figures, the most significant outcome of BLOSSOM Project 4 Activity 2 was its human impact. For many attendees, the day offered a rare opportunity to pause, speak openly about stress and anxiety, and hear that their struggles are recognized and supported. In doing so, WVSU College of Nursing demonstrated how academic extension work can move beyond classroom boundariesโ€”bringing learning, compassion, and tangible support directly to the places where mothers live.
