Eye Allergies: Relief Starts with Proper Care

Itchy, red, watery eyes are common symptoms of eye allergies, especially during certain seasons.

To help relieve symptoms:
🌿 Avoid rubbing your eyes.
🌿 Use cold compresses.
🌿 Keep windows closed during high pollen days.
🌿 Wear sunglasses outdoors.
🌿 Consult your eye doctor before using medicated eye drops.

Persistent redness or discomfort should always be evaluated by an eye care professional.

Protect your eyes and enjoy the season comfortably.

PUBLIC ADVISORY FROM THE PHILIPPINE ACADEMY OF OPHTHALMOLOGY: Beware of unproven eye medicine, eye drops, and eye devices that are being peddled as a cure-all or prevention of different eye conditions. Consult your ophthalmologist for the proper care of your eyes.

💧 Edema: What You Need to Know 💧

Definition:
Edema is the swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in the body’s tissues. It can occur in the legs, feet, hands, or other areas, and is often a sign of underlying medical conditions.

Types of Edema:

• Pitting edema: When you press on the swollen area, a “pit” or indentation remains for several seconds. Commonly linked to heart failure, kidney disease, or liver problems.
• Non-pitting edema: No indentation forms when pressed. Often associated with conditions like lymphedema, thyroid disease, or localized tissue problems.

✨ Clinical Insight:
Recognizing the type of edema helps guide diagnosis and treatment. While sometimes benign, persistent or severe swelling should prompt medical evaluation.

👩‍⚕️ Takeaway:
Edema is not a disease itself but a symptom — understanding its type and cause is key to proper care.

Protect Your Eyes from UV Rays

Your eyes need sun protection too.

Long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays may increase the risk of cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye conditions.

Protect your vision by:
🕶️ Wearing quality UV400 sunglasses
👒 Using a wide-brimmed hat outdoors
☀️ Avoiding prolonged sun exposure during peak hours

Quality sunglasses don't just reduce glare—they help safeguard your long-term eye health.

Do You Have Dry Eyes?

Dry eyes are more than just occasional discomfort—they can affect your daily activities and overall quality of vision.

Common symptoms include:
💧 Burning or stinging sensation
💧 Redness
💧 Blurred vision
💧 Grittiness or feeling like something is in your eye
💧 Excessive tearing

If these symptoms persist, it may be time for a comprehensive eye evaluation.

Early diagnosis helps identify the cause and determine the most appropriate treatment.
