Last August 11, 2026, the MactanMed Family and Community Medicine Residents were grateful to be part of an insightful learning session under the Alagang Family Physician program, featuring valuable discussions on mental health and its management and precision pain management with the proper and responsible use of NSAIDs.
The session on mental health highlighted the importance of recognizing mental health concerns early, understanding the patient within the context of their psychosocial environment, and providing compassionate, holistic, and patient-centered care.
The discussion on NSAIDs, meanwhile, provided important reminders on rational prescribing and safe pain management; from selecting the appropriate medication and dose to considering each patient’s gastrointestinal, renal, and cardiovascular risks. It reinforced the importance of using medications judiciously and tailoring treatment to the individual needs of every patient.
We are sincerely grateful to our distinguished speakers, Dr. Jasmin U. Friberg and Dr. Gary D. Galon, for sharing their expertise, experience, and valuable insights with us. Your discussions have given us practical knowledge that we can bring back to our clinics and incorporate into our everyday practice.
Thank you as well to the organizers and partners who made this meaningful learning opportunity possible. Experiences like these remind us that continuous learning is essential to becoming better physicians and providing safer, more compassionate care to our patients.
