Legazpi City --- Select learners with special needs enrolled in Legazpi City Division SPED Center received through parents, their dozen-egg supplement package, thanks to the generosity of the Legazpi City Veterinary Office. Facilitator-members of the school faculty likewise received their egg packages.

The give-away is part of WCCD, Inc.'s wellness and nutrition initiatives on top of its regular services for kids in the autism spectrum.

This multi-partite collaboration between WCCD, Inc., the City Vet Office and the SPED Center is yet another testimony that the private sector, specifically civil society organizations (CSOs) can actively participate in the furtherance of effective local governance through delivery of needed services in the community. xXx

Worried about school mornings getting chaotic again? 😅

And whether your kids have already started school or you're staring down that first day next week, here's one simple thing you can set up ahead of time:

Make the morning routine visual.

I created one with a family in session this week, and thought — I bet some of you could use this too.

Kids often need to SEE what they're supposed to do to really understand and conceptualize the routine.

And for ADHD kiddos? Having each step laid out visually means they don't have to keep the whole morning routine in their head.

Want to make your own?

Just copy + paste your routine into ChatGPT and say:

“Create a visual for this morning routine:
6:00 am — shower if kids want to
6:30 am — #1 wake-up call
6:35 am — lay out medication + start making breakfast
6:40 am — #2 wake-up call
6:50 am — breakfast is ready (double-check medication is taken)
7:05 am — shoes on + backpacks
7:10 am — in the car leaving for school”

That's it! 🙌

One less thing for you to repeat 47 times every morning. 😂

Get the routine out of your head and somewhere they can see it.

Helping Kids Fail by Failing to Help.
My wish for this school year is that every child walking into their school building feels like they belong. I want them to feel that they can be their authentic selves and not have to conform to fit some mold. If they struggle, I want them to feel supported by the people who are there to teach them, not judged that they 'made a bad choice', are 'avoiding work' or 'seeking negative attention'.
My concern is that, once again, many kids will face the same old behavior plans and token systems to force compliance, and the same carrots and sticks that teach young children that praise is conditional.

Many kids, ESPECIALLY neurodivergent kids, will be exposed to these behavior systems very quickly at the start of school. Instead of being curious about WHY they're having difficulty, they will be seen as defiant, or non-compliant, and the adults will use their energy and power to try and "modify" their behavior. Often, the adults will assume its a motivation issue and be convinced that if they just motivate the student with extrinsic rewards, they'll be fine. That thinking is incorrect. They may assume that a concerning behavior was volitional, that it was a 'choice' the student made, and that a consequence is necessary. That mindset won't solve a single problem.

While we continue to try and modify their behavior without solving the underlying problem, the student will CONTINUE to struggle and CONTINUE to fail to meet expectations.

Or...

We can help them!

Help them solve a Problem
Help them navigate an Emotion
Help them meet a Need or
Help them learn a Skill they don't have or can't access.

If we don't HELP them, we set them up for failure. Kids don't want to fail. Kids want to do well. If we help them proactively instead of focusing on modifying their behavior, not only will the students have the best chance to do well, but all the behavior "management" systems will be unnecessary!

How long do kids have to struggle or fail before we help them?

And so much more, because we love our children more than anything in this world!🥰

🫢One of the biggest shifts in my parenting was realizing...

My son’s ADHD wasn’t the problem.

The missing piece was my ability to stay secure when his ADHD triggered me.
