Transcend Visits Municipality of Lezo for Smoke-Free Program Study
On April 7, 2025, representatives from Transcending Institutions and Communities, Inc. (Transcend), supported by Vital Strategies, visited the Municipality of Lezo as part of a case study focusing on Aklan’s Smoke-Free Program.
The study, aimed at documenting and promoting sustainable to***co control initiatives, was conducted using the Philippine Index of To***co Control Sustainability (ITCS) developed by the MMDA. The research team was led by Ms. Marcia Feria Miranda, along with Dr. Madeleine Valera, Mr. Reiner Tamayo, Ms. Jasmin Lagahit, Ms. Nuelia Zaldivar, and Mr. Jeus Rey Padilla.
During their visit, the team met with Hon. Mayor Mary Lenette R. Fernandez, Dr. Alyssa Faye N. Azarraga and Mr. Keran C. Palma, RN, and conducted interviews and document reviews with key personnel involved in the local To***co Control Program.
The experiences and best practices of LGU Lezo are expected to serve as a model for other communities striving to implement and sustain smoke-free initiatives.
