you read "we need to talk" texts three times before responding. you've said "it's fine" about something that was very much not fine, at least twice this week. you're the emergency contact for people who aren't even related to you.

and somehow there's a whole list in your head — everyone's birthdays, everyone's permission slips, everyone's feelings — all checked off, except one thing that never quite makes the cut: yourself.
