DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL MEDICINE ACCREDITATION VISIT

The Department of Internal Medicine of Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center welcomed the esteemed accreditors for its third time of accreditation Visit on September 19, 2026.

The visit was attended by Dr. Felipe R. Agbisit, CMPS II, Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine, together with the Training Officer, Training Core, Consultants, and Residents of the Department. Also in attendance was Ms. Juliet Cabrera, Representative from the Administration.

This accreditation visit provided an important opportunity to showcase the department’s continuing commitment to excellence in patient care, medical education, residency training, research, professionalism, and service to the community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the distinguished accreditors and all hospital leaders, consultants, training officers, core members, and residents who contributed to the success of this meaningful activity.

Learning today to save lives tomorrow.

The Department of Internal Medicine held another meaningful Oncology Hour, featuring the timely topic "Prevention & Early Detection of Common Cancers." The session was presented by Dr. Abraham Gomez III, our 1st Year Internal Medicine Resident, together with his co-residents, and was facilitated by the consultant on duty.

The discussion emphasized the importance of cancer prevention, recognizing early warning signs, and the vital role of timely screening in improving patient outcomes. Through collaborative learning and expert guidance, our residents continue to strengthen their knowledge and commitment to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care.

Every lesson learned today is another step toward making a difference in the lives of our patients.

MORBIDITY CONFERENCE

Every heartbeat tells a story—and sometimes, a single murmur can change everything.

The Department of Internal Medicine successfully conducted its Morbidity Conference, presented by Dr. Krishna Angela Taberna, our First-Year Internal Medicine Resident, featuring the case entitled "The Murmur That Changed Everything: A Case of Post-MI Ventricular Septal Rupture."

The conference brought together residents and consultants in a meaningful discussion of a rare and life-threatening complication following myocardial infarction. Through careful case analysis, open exchange of ideas, and evidence-based learning, participants gained valuable insights into the importance of early recognition, timely intervention, and multidisciplinary collaboration in managing complex cases.

More than just reviewing a clinical case, the Morbidity Conference reflects our department's commitment to continuous learning, professional growth, and improving the quality of patient care. Every discussion, every lesson, and every shared experience helps us become better physicians for the patients we serve.

Department of Internal Medicine Grand Rounds

The Department of Internal Medicine proudly conducted its 1st-ever Grand Rounds on June 22, 2026, at the FNLGHTC-DADS Hall, marking a significant milestone in advancing medical education, clinical excellence, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The session featured an insightful case presentation by Dr. Maila B. Buhong, First-Year Internal Medicine Resident, entitled:

“Multiorgan Paradoxical Thrombosis in Dextrocardia with VSD and Secondary Erythrocytosis”

This remarkable presentation highlighted the complexities of managing a rare and challenging clinical case, fostering meaningful discussions and evidence-based learning among healthcare professionals.

Distance should never be a barrier to quality healthcare.

As part of the Outreach and Medical Mission of the 2nd Cagayan PMFC under Project MODELS (Medical, Optical, Dental, Evangelism/Education, Legal, and Other Services), healthcare services were brought directly to the people of Calayan Island, Province of Cagayan—reaching communities where access to medical care can often be challenging.

Guided by its mission and vision of delivering healthcare to underserved and remote areas, the FNLGHTC–Department of Internal Medicine gladly joined this meaningful endeavor. Through medical consultations and compassionate care, the team had the opportunity to serve residents and address their healthcare needs while fostering awareness on disease prevention and healthy living.

More than providing medical services, this mission was about building connections, offering hope, and reminding every individual that their health matters—no matter how far they may be.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the 2nd Cagayan PMFC, all partner organizations, volunteers, healthcare workers, and the people of Calayan Island for making this outreach a success. Together, we continue to prove that when service and compassion come together, healthcare can reach even the most distant communities.
