A photo from 2016. A mission that never stopped.
Looking back at this photo reminds me that safety advocacy is not something that started yesterday.
For the past nine years, I have been proposing initiatives to help improve occupational safety, health, environmental protection, and community safety in the City of Makati. Many of those proposals were not given the opportunity to move forward, and I was not given the chance to implement them for the City.
But I never stopped believing that safety deserves a place in local governance not only to protect workers, but also businesses, families, and the communities surrounding our workplaces.
Today, I am happy to see that its importance is beginning to receive greater attention. Whether I am the one given the opportunity to do it or someone else does it is secondary. What matters most is that our workers are protected, our establishments become safer, our environment is cared for, and our communities are protected from preventable risks.
Advocacy is not about who gets the credit.
It is about continuing to speak until something meaningful begins to change.
I may have been unheard before, but I will continue to advocate, contribute, and offer solutions whenever given the opportunity.
Safety has always been the mission not the recognition.
Safe Workers. Safe Workplaces. Safe Communities. A Safer Makati.
