Which Lipids Raise Heart Risk?

High cholesterol is linked to heart disease and heart attack risk. A lipid panel, also called a lipid profile or cholesterol test, measures LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol. High LDL cholesterol is associated with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk. High triglycerides also relate to heart disease risk, especially with other metabolic risk factors. Non-HDL cholesterol, ApoB, and Lp(a) provide additional information about atherogenic particles and cardiovascular risk. Understanding LDL, HDL, triglycerides, cholesterol levels, high LDL, high triglycerides, Lp(a) heart risk, ApoB, and non-HDL cholesterol helps explain what your cholesterol test results mean. Heart risk is not determined by one number. Results should be interpreted with your overall cardiovascular risk.
