The doctor told me words that shattered my heart: “You may never speak again for the rest of your life. For there is no discovered cure yet with your condition.”
When Deacon. Jeffrey E. Loma was a seminarian, he was diagnosed with Adductor Spasmodic Dysphonia, a severe neurological disorder that strangulates the vocal cords and makes speaking nearly impossible. Doctors warned that he might never speak again. Yet through 4 to 5 years of silence, he held onto his faith and continued his seminary studies.
Taking a courageous leap of faith, he underwent thyroplasty performed by doctors of IMVC Manila. It is a specialized type of procedure where a plate is implanted on the vocal cords to help patients suffering from speak.
Last August 19, in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, Deacon Loma was ordained at the Immaculate Conception Parish.
We believe that IMVC surgeons were placed in a path to help Deacon Loma through God's grace and divine intervention so that he can continue to spread his message of hope and faith.
