Advancing Community-Based Mental Health Through Multi-Sector Dialogue

The Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP), together with the Ateneo Center for Research and Innovation (ACRI) and the Department of Health (DOH)- Disease Prevention and Control Bureau (DPCB), convened stakeholders from government, healthcare institutions, local governments, academia, and the private sector to strengthen community-based mental health effort.

The roundtable discussion with theme “Lusog-Isip sa Bayan nina Juana’t Juan: Sama-samangTugunan Tungo sa Kaunlaran – A Collaborative Community-Based Mental Health Dialogue” was held on 3 March 2026 at the Ateneo Rockwell Campus.

The dialogue highlighted ongoing initiatives to strengthen the implementation of the Philippine Mental Health Act (RA 11036) and advance community-based mental health systems in the Philippines.

The discussion featured insights from the Department of Health, PhilHealth, the National Center for Mental Health, and the Quezon City Government, alongside contributions from healthcare partners and community stakeholders.

Insights generated during the roundtable are expected to support ongoing DOH mental health initiatives and contribute to discussions at the National Mental Health Convention scheduled on 18–19 March 2026.

PHAP Executive Director Teodoro B. Padilla emphasized the importance of collective action in strengthening governance, financing mechanisms, and service delivery to ensure that mental health policies translate into meaningful support for Filipino communities.

Health experts are urging stronger public education efforts as RSV continues to pose a serious health risk, particularly during the cooler months.

According to Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Rontgene Solante, public awareness of RSV remains limited despite the virus causing significant hospitalizations each year. He stressed the need for stronger information drives on how it spreads, available vaccinations, and other preventive measures, noting that even a single infection can have long-term health effects.
