The future of cataract care is about more than restoring vision. It is about giving patients greater visual freedom.
On 15 August, Transmedic Ophthalmology, together with Teleon, welcomed ophthalmologists from across Malaysia to Meliá Kuala Lumpur for an evening of clinical insights and shared experiences on the evolving role of varifocal IOLs in cataract and refractive care.
Chaired by Prof. Dr. Tajunisah Begam Mohamed Iqbal, the symposium brought together Dr. Noor Aniah Azmi, Dr. Helen Tan, and Dr. Yong Ked Sheong, with Dr. Shin Hoy Choong as panelist.
The faculty shared valuable clinical perspectives from their experience with the LENTIS® and ACUNEX® Family:
● Dr. Noor Aniah Azmi discussed key considerations in post-LASIK cataract patients seeking continued spectacle independence, including the LENTIS® MF15/MF20 design and its approach to refractive challenges, contrast sensitivity, and photic phenomena.
● Dr. Helen Tan shared up to seven years of Malaysian experience with LENTIS® MF20 & MF30, including sustained distance and near visual outcomes, a favourable safety profile, and high patient satisfaction. She also highlighted how a mix-and-match Varifocal approach can help personalise vision according to patients’ distance and near priorities.
● Dr. Yong Ked Sheong shared insights from his experience with 100 ACUNEX® VarioMax cases, highlighting distance, intermediate, and near visual outcomes, alongside the lens’ varifocal design and high light transmission.
Thank you to our team, distinguished faculty, TELEON, and all the ophthalmologists who joined us and contributed to the discussion. We look forward to continuing these conversations and advancing cataract care through education, clinical experience, and collaboration.
