After years of working with nutrition, lifestyle and Traditional Chinese Medicine, I’ve become much less interested in doing what is healthy according to the latest trend and much more interested in what actually supports the individual body.
1. Ice-cold everything
Cold plunges, iced drinks, cold smoothies — because colder must be better, right?
Chinese Medicine takes a different view: digestion is supported by warmth, and constantly introducing cold may not suit everyone. I now pay much more attention to how my body responds rather than forcing it to adapt to a trend.
2. Fasting just because everyone is doing it
Fasting can be useful for some people, but more is not always better. Chinese Medicine looks at constitution, energy, digestion, age and overall balance. I stopped treating hunger as something I automatically need to override.
3. Exercising harder when I’m already depleted
More intensity doesn’t always mean more health. Chinese Medicine teaches us to work with our available Qi rather than constantly pushing against our reserves. Some days need strength. Others need walking, stretching, rest or simply being outside.
4. Trying to detox my body with increasingly extreme protocols

The body already has sophisticated systems for processing and eliminating what it doesn’t need. Instead of chasing the next cleanse, I focus on supporting digestion, regular elimination, sleep, hydration, nourishment and the body’s natural rhythms.
What changed?
I stopped asking: “What is the healthiest thing to do?”
And started asking:
“What is healthy for this body, at this moment?”
That shift is at the heart of integrative medicine and one of the reasons I love Chinese Medicine so much.
Because health isn’t about following more rules. It’s about learning to listen. 🌿
