💬 “Adolescent pregnancy is not the norm — it is the exception. And if we address it, we address poverty.” — Dr. Rachel D. Dilla, City Health Office

Last February 18–20, ISDN members of Cagayan de Oro City gathered at Duka Bay Resort to plan stronger strategies for adolescent health and development in the city.

This quote reminds us why our work matters: adolescent pregnancy isn’t inevitable. By coming together to strengthen systems, clarify roles, and implement Project25@28-aligned interventions, we can give our young people the chance to thrive, dream bigger, and break cycles of poverty.

Together, we’re making adolescent health a priority — because every adolescent deserves a safe, healthy, and hopeful future. 🌱

📝A Gentle Reminder to Parents

Some kindergarten learners have been using words they picked up from social media and online videos. While this may seem harmless and funny to some, research shows that early exposure to unfiltered digital content can affect language, behavior and learning at this age.

Young children (ages 3–6) learn by imitation, not by fully understanding meaning. The part of the brain responsible for self-control and judgment is still developing, so children cannot easily tell what language or behavior is appropriate.

Studies also show that fast-paced and highly stimulating videos can reduce attention span and make classroom learning more challenging.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:
✅Monitor and choose age-appropriate content
✅Set screen-time limits
✅Watch together and talk about what children see
✅Encourage reading, conversation and play

Early childhood is a critical stage of brain and language development. When school and home work together, we give our children the best foundation for healthy learning and behavior 💛

Children who are reared and cared for by both parents are more able to develop nurturing types of behavior, such as: being understanding, demonstrating caring behavior, conveying warmth and encouragement.

We give our children two lasting gifts – ROOTS and WINGS. Roots are their identity and values. Wings are the strength to move forward in life. Let’s give them a solid foundation so they never feel lost, and wings to soar toward their dreams.
