My second read for 2026.
This book has been sitting in my digital library since 2023, but because life happened, I only got around to reading it recently. As you all know, I had just recovered emotionally from reading The Kite Runner β and now, this.
Itβs such a gripping read that it keeps you glued to the pages without even realizing it. I finished it in less than a week, which is quite a feat for me considering I have to juggle fellowship training, leisure reading, sorting out laundry, washing the dishes, and daydreaming and staring into nothingness.
All I can say is this: after reading the final page and closing the book, I found myself in a trance, needing a few moments to process everything.
Great work, Alex Michaelides. Not bad at all for a debut novel. I only hope his succeeding works either match this masterpiece β or surpass it.
