Hands-on beats lecture-only.

In a study of 80 staff nurses, lectures plus hands-on seminars using wound simulators significantly improved both knowledge and dressing skills. A 2026 scoping review found every teaching method studied improved at least one area of competence (Kielo-Viljamaa et al., 2026). Reference below:

Maliit lang ang data na ito but it reveals a lot sa pagtuturo ng wound management na alam naman natin mas marami natututo kapag hands on especially sa usapin ng sugat at wound dressing.

Walang kakayahan mag isip ang dressing at ang makina ng npwt, ang wound care nurse o clinician ang dapat mag isip paaano ma utilize ng maayos ang ating dressing.

Dito iikot ang ating module for the trained wound care nurse program na tuturuan sa malawak na usapin ng dressing at simple but relatable na health teaching methodology na maaring makatulong sa mabilis na compliance at healing ng sugat.

Isang taon na pala nakalipas 👻🫣

WE opened the first nurse-led chronic wound care clinic Langgas Wound Care Center in the Philippines in collaboration with Dr. Reynaldo Lemos Salinel Jr.., who encouraged me to finally put my base in Manila so people could finally meet me and have their treatment here in his clinic. We decided to try it for six months and see how it would grow, and surprisingly, in less than six months, the services resonated with the community.

Since my practice is based in the UAE, most of my wound narratives were from there, and I had only a few wounds that were “Pinoy na Pinoy”. This chance opened the gate of change. All the cases, including what is wrong with our current dressing practice, are now properly documented and shared as a model of hope for aspiring wound care nurses.

Langgas provided the institutional backbone of our lectures, inspiring other institutions to start their own, and we are overwhelmed by what they have achieved. One baby we are proud of is Camiguin General Hospital, DOH Hospital in Region X. It not only embraced the vision and mission of Langgas Wound Care Center and the Wound Care Nurses Society of the Philippines Inc., but also institutionalized the approach, which we never saw coming, and it won for its design and innovation. Thanks to the entire team from management and nursing headed Mam Gloria Sebastian Dollera Nurse Arfe Dr. Dollera and the rest of the supportive staff.

The paradigm shift is already in effect. Now it's up to our management how we will move to serve more.

Kasama po ba ang OSTOMY or STOMA sa TRAINED WOUND CARE NURSE PROGRAM?

Ostomy care is intentionally not part of the TWCN program. Ostomy and continence care (pahapyaw na mapag uusapan) is a distinct field with its own body of knowledge, and there is already a professional organization in the country dedicated to it.

We respect that domain and the colleagues who have built it. Our program stays focused on wound assessment, dressing selection, and running an institutional wound care service.

For ostomy training, we encourage nurses to learn from the organization that specializes in it. 💙

Finally….🤗

We created this kasi napapansin na namin ang load ng inquiry and we felt the 2 and 3 days is inadequate sa skills na kailangan matutunan para maging complete package. And ito ay pwede lang sa institution o nasa hospital lang and not open to individual practice. We need to tigthen it and control dahil ayaw natin na magsarili sila then eventually ma jeopardize ang health o sugat ng mga patient dahil sa skills and knowledge na ito.

This is mimic/adopted sa CPSP level 7 skills ng PRC BON and CPD Law as a point of reference and eventually isubmit natin sa CPDAS for accreditation.

🩹 TRAINED WOUND CARE NURSE (TWCN) CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAM
📅 November 3–18, 2026
📍 Langgas Wound Care Center

Let me be clear about what this program is — and what it is not.

This is NOT a specialty or advanced practice certification. The Philippines does not yet have an Advanced Nursing Practice law, and no training program can grant a title that the law has not created. Anyone who tells you otherwise is promising something they cannot give.

What this program IS: a skills and capacity-building training that prepares your nurse to become your institution's WOUND CARE RESOURCE NURSE.

After 15 days, your nurse will be able to:

✅ Assess wounds in collaboration with pt physician
✅ Choose the right dressing or antiseptic from products actually available in the Philippine market
✅ Help organize and run your institution's wound care center or service
✅ Teach colleagues and family caregivers at the bedside
✅ Work within the scope of RA 9173 and coordinate with your nursing service, attending physicians, and hospital administration through your proper chain of command

The resource nurse does not replace your physicians or your hierarchy. They strengthen it — by bringing evidence-based wound care to the bedside and referring the right cases to the right people at the right time.

The program includes 3 days of dressing selection workshop and lectures (i design a different template that will bend nuerons para mas mahirap at mas complex and mas deeper na lecture compare sa ginagawa sa workshop natin na mabilisan due to time constrained), a benchmarking visit at the UNDISCLOSE HOSP 1 wound care center, and 11 days of supervised clinical duty covering pressure injuries, diabetic foot, venous leg ulcers, fungating wounds, NPWT, and more.

One trained nurse. One stronger wound care team. 💙
