Jesadel Marie M. Ubanan, CPC, is a Coding University educator at Tenet-Conifer Global Business Center. She believes she may not be a school teacher, but she fulfills her purpose by guiding professionals to become certified coders.
A BS Biology graduate, entering medical coding was a major risk and challenge, as her degree included no exposure to medical cases. Though first introduced to the field in college, she started her career as a pharmacy benefit analyst, later working as an auditor and trainer. During the pandemic, she sought a stable career with professional credentials. She was once rejected by a coding academy for not meeting their requirements since they did not accept BS Biology graduates or applicants without hospital experience, so she pursued training in HCBI to earn her CPC certification.
In 2022, she began as an HCC risk adjustment coder at Optum Global Solutions. After a year, she joined Conifer as a same-day surgery and observation coder. When Tenet-Conifer GBC launched its Coding University, she applied to become one of its educators. She takes great pride in helping aspiring scholars earn their CPC credential. This year, her dedication was recognized when she was selected as the Coding University Ambassador. Her journey proves that determination and skill matter more than background.
Congratulations, JM! π
