🩸 RARE BUT REAL: AIHA & PNH Lay Forum

The PGH Division of Hematology, in partnership with the PCHTM Committee on Advocacy and Immunohematology and the Rare Diseases Working Group, successfully conducted the “Rare But Real: AIHA & PNH Lay Forum” last July 24, 2026, at the Cancer Institute Main Lobby.

The forum brought together patients, families, healthcare professionals, and advocates to raise awareness about two rare blood disorders—Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA) and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH).

Participants learned about the nature of these conditions through informative discussions covering their signs and symptoms, diagnosis, and available treatment options. One of the highlights of the program was the patient talk show, where individuals living with AIHA and PNH courageously shared their personal journeys—from the challenges of diagnosis to their experiences with treatment and living with these rare diseases.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who attended the forum, joined us via Facebook Live, and supported this advocacy initiative. Your participation helps strengthen awareness, promote early recognition, and foster a more informed and compassionate community for individuals living with rare blood disorders.

Rare doesn’t mean invisible. Every story deserves to be heard

❤️ 45 Lives Touched Through the Gift of Blood ❤️

The UP – PGH Division of Hematology, in partnership with the PCHTM, successfully held the blood donation drive and lay forum, “Dugo Mong Inialay, Nagliligtas ng Buhay,” on July 21, 2026 at the UP-PGH Atrium.

We are proud to share that 45 successful blood donors generously gave the gift of life, helping ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for patients in need.

This success would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our partners, the Philippine Coast Guard and the UP Medical Students Society (UP-MSS). Their commitment to voluntary blood donation reflects the true spirit of service, compassion, and bayanihan.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this event a success. Every unit of blood donated represents hope for patients battling illnesses, undergoing surgery, experiencing trauma, or requiring life-saving transfusions. ❤️
