It’s Wellness Wednesday! Sharing with you our TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) Salisbury Steak Recipe. 💚
INGREDIENTS:
• 1/2 lb of cooked TVP (or any meat substitute of your choice)
• 2 teaspoons of onion powder
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
• 1/5 teaspoon garam masala or curry powder
• 1/5 teaspoon dried oregano
• Salt and Pepper, to taste
• 1/2 cup of bread crumbs
• 2 tablespoons of cornstarch or potato starch
• 2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
FOR THE SAUCE:
• 3 tablespoons of vegan butter
• 1 minced onion
• 8oz of mushrooms, sliced
• 1/5 teaspoon of nutmeg
• 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder
• Salt and pepper to taste2 tablespoons of flour diluted in 1/5 cup of water 2 cup of vegetable broth and two tablespoons of soy sauce
• Dash of Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tablespoon of ketchup
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the patties. Form into 4 (or 6 depending on how big you want them) oval patties and set them aside.
2. In a large skillet, sear the patties for a few minutes on each side or until they develop some gold color, remove to a plate and set aside.
3. In the same skillet over medium-high heat, add the butter and allow it to melt, add the onions, sauté for 2 minutes, add the mushrooms and sauté for about 7, 8 minutes or until they become golden brown in color
4. Add the soy sauce, the vegetable broth, the Worcestershire sauce, the ketchup, the spices, the salt, and pepper, bring mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to medium, add the patties back in and cook for 10 minutes, making sure to flip them halfway through for even cooking.
5. Add the flour slurry, let it cook for 3 minutes more.
6. Sprinkle over some freshly chopped parsley and serve.
