The darker the green vegetables are, the more vitamin A they have. Sautéing green vegetables in fats or oils helps increase vitamin A absorption. Try to introduce vitamin A-rich foods to children 6 months or older to prevent illnesses and night blindness.

GATAS NG PAGMAMAHAL: Nurturing Mothers, Building Bobon’s Future

In Barangay Bobon, the journey toward a healthier future begins with a simple yet powerful act of love—a mother nourishing her child. On August 29, 2026, the Gatas ng Pagmamahal Bobon Breastfeeding Support Group, through HAKAB Na Barangay Edition, brought together 31 lactating mothers at the Bobon Barangay Hall, turning a simple gathering into a celebration of motherhood, community, and hope. This initiative was born from Bobon’s Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) and its Barangay Resolution creating the Local Breastfeeding Support Group (LBSG). True to its commitment to nutrition, Bobon proudly became the first barangay in Mati City to establish an LBSG and the first to complete its BNAP—a testament to what can be achieved when community leaders take nutrition seriously and turn plans into meaningful action. This also echoes the call of City Health Officer Dr. Ben Hur G. Catbagan, Jr. to continually promote, protect, and advocate breastfeeding.

The gathering became a beautiful learning space for mothers, where knowledge was shared and confidence was strengthened. Rejee Lou Mejia, Founder of Mati Moms, and Yola Mantua, DOH Nutritionist-Dietitian, provided health education on the importance and benefits of breastfeeding and the First 1,000 Days of Life. Beyond the lessons and discussions, the activity carried a deeper message: every time a mother chooses to breastfeed, she is not only feeding her child—she is helping build a healthier future. With the support of Congressman Cheeno Almario, Mayor Mayo Almario, Department of Health, City Health Office, and the City Nutrition Unit, Bobon’s mothers were reminded that they are never alone in this journey. A community that stands beside its mothers stands beside its children.

Adding meaning to the occasion was the presence of Bobon’s leaders, headed by Punong Barangay Judie Landicho, together with Kagawad Maximo Ortega Benatero Jr. and Kagawad Melvin Roy Casas Gayta. Their support sends a powerful message: the leaders of Bobon know where to invest—not only in programs, but in people; not only in today, but in tomorrow. Because the little children being nourished today will one day become the leaders, professionals, parents, and community builders of Bobon. The activity was spearheaded by Barangay Midwife Daisy Rose Luna, with the dedicated support of Barangay Nurse Aida Ranoa, Barangay Nutrition Scholar Eleonesa Alilian and the rest of the LBSG members. Indeed, Gatas ng Pagmamahal is more than a breastfeeding initiative—it is Bobon’s promise that every mother will be supported, every child will be given a strong foundation, and every generation will have a better future.

Strengthening Nutrition Programs through MELLPI Pro and OPT Data Quality Check Orientation

Local Nutrition Focal Points (LNFPs) from across the Davao Region gathered on August 27, 2026, at The Ritz Hotel, Davao City, for the MELLPI Pro and OPT Data Quality Check Orientation. The activity aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro and strengthen the quality and reliability of the nutrition program data, particularly those generated through Operation Timbang Plus (OPT Plus).

The orientation provided an avenue for participants to deepen their knowledge on proper data quality checking, monitoring, validation, and documentation of nutrition program accomplishments. By strengthening the capacity of nutrition focal personnel in both program monitoring and data quality assurance, the activity contributes to more accurate reporting, evidence-based planning, and improved implementation of nutrition interventions across the Davao Region.

Barangay Dahican Holds Buntis Congress 2026, Strengthening Maternal Health and Family Wellness

Barangay Dahican successfully conducted its Buntis Congress 2026, bringing together 34 pregnant women for a day dedicated to maternal health, wellness, and empowerment. The activity was spearheaded by Punong Barangay Eric Rabat, with the support of Barangay Kagawad Hanan Naduaran and the rest of the barangay council, aimed to provide expectant mothers with essential information and accessible health services. Health education sessions covered key topics including proper prenatal care, birth preparedness, the importance of breastfeeding, and family planning, equipping the participants with knowledge that can help promote safe pregnancy, healthy childbirth, and responsible parenthood.

The Buntis Congress also provided an opportunity for the participants to avail themselves of free health services, including medical consultation, dental check-up, and HIV testing. Giveaways were likewise distributed to the participating mothers as part of the activity. Through this initiative, Barangay Dahican demonstrated its continuing commitment to bringing essential maternal and reproductive health services closer to the community. The activity highlights the importance of empowering mothers with the right knowledge, services, and support toward healthier pregnancies, healthier babies, and healthier families.
