PYOGENIC GRANULOMA
> a common, benign (non-cancerous), fast-growing and easily bleeding red vascular tumor, often arising on the skin or oral mucosa following injury or during pregnancy. Though not actually infectious (despite the name), these lesions require medical evaluation to rule out malignancy and are usually treated via surgical removal, laser, or cautery.

Common Causes
It often develops after:
~Minor trauma or irritation (biting, brushing, rough dental appliances)
~Poor oral hygiene
~Hormonal changes (especially pregnancy)
~Chronic inflammation

Where It Appears
Most commonly found on:
>Gums (gingiva) in the mouth
>Lips
>Tongue
>Cheeks
>Skin (fingers, face)

Appearance
Usually:
~Red to reddish-purple
~Soft, smooth or lobulated lump
~Bleeds easily
~Can grow quickly over days to weeks
~Sometimes ulcerated

In the Mouth
On the gums, it may appear between teeth and can be linked to plaque or irritation.

Treatment
Depends on size and cause:

Professional cleaning / removing irritants
Surgical excision
Laser removal / Cauterization
Improved oral hygiene
Pregnancy-related lesions may shrink after delivery

BECAUSE SOME OTHER LESIONS CAN LOOK SIMILAR, DENTIST OR ORAL SURGEON MAY RECOMMEND BIOPSY TO CONFIRM DIAGNOSIS.
